Regarding backoffs

It's just a bad idea all around. The decision to back off/barr isn't made on a single incident or action. There are a number of actions that lead to that point. The chances of talking your way out of it are extremely remote. But lets say somehow, you did. What does it buy you? Do you some how have a clean slate and they are no longer looking at you? No of course not. You would be on a very short leash and the end result would be the same, you might have bought yourself very minimal extra time. And in doing so, you will have made yourself far more memorable, which is about the worst thing you can do. Best route is to quietly except the decision and move on as quietly, quickly and non-memorable as you can.

I have talked my way out of being taken off the floor to a back room, but that is a different story. The damage is already done.

No, I've never attempted it, nor would I. I want to get the hell out, being as respectful as possible, so they don't remember me or flyer me out of spite.

Poor long-term strategy

Why get into a conversation that will only make your face more memorable to them?

Should you succeed, you'll only be scrutinized more carefully when you return.

On a related note, I was backed off and the casino manager called me by my first name. I play unrated and this was my first BO so they didn't get my name from another store. Now I'm thinking it's possible that they asked one of the dealers or PB if they knew my name as I had been in this place several times and at least a few people knew my first name but it wasn't common knowledge.

My other theory is that they ran my plate numbers off of my vehicle to ID me. Is this legal for them to do?

I am hoping that a dealer was asked and just told them my first name. If they ID'd me from my plate number then they also know my last name and address which could then be shared with other stores. :flame:

I'm sure this advice is all well intentioned, but that's not what I asked for. I'd like to know if anyone has ever successfully talked their way out of a backoff. That's the information I'm looking for, not advice on how one should handle a backoff. I know it's been said over and over again here to just leave quietly, but I'd like to know if anyone has ever taken the opposite approach and succeeded.

why on earth would you ever give anyone your real name?

They have me narrowed down to 1 of approximately 5,000,000 Americans with the same first name. If they pulled the plate they have me. But you have a point and I won't make that mistake again.

just guessing here, my two cents would be that having kept up with the best personal comportment strategy before the imminent back off, might give one the best odds for 'talking' down an imminent backoff. whatever, i'd think that if they liked you in the first place, the harder it would be for them reach a backoff decision.
one joint i used to play a lot in, i made it a point to get in with the 'IN' crowd, thinking the joint wouldn't want to make them mad for getting rid of one of their friends, lol.... kind of like severty's avator, lmao (Dead link: http://www.blackjackinfo.com/bb/member.php?u=6643)

No. Never even tried but I have been pretty successful at avoiding them.

No, I didn't try to and have never heard of anyone who did.
