Revisit Mountaineer Casino in WV

I haven't been there for 2 months since Pittsburgh casino opened. This place is down to the drain and ready to go bust after Ohio casinos open. If the penetration was not generous before, it is even worse now. In the past, many dealers only dealt 5.5 decks out of 8, now it is more like 5 decks out of 8. And it is the only casino in the region that you can't surrender. The only good news is that there are $5 tables everywhere. But it is just because they want to suck the last sheeple's money as the management compensate with the worst penetration in USA.

I usually play 6D in the HL room where the pen was usually better, but I haven't been there in awhile.

They must really be hurting though as they upped my match play coupons to $200 each...probably worth a trip.

OK, I visited the mountaneir casino on my trip this week, I walked in, walked around a bit and left because it was too busy for me to operate.

While I was there, I noted that it was s17 8d all around ecept the HL room which was 6D

I didn't play so I don't know if surrender was offered. pen seemed to be at 2 off of 8. ***I didn't observe pen in HL room, I only peeked inside

They run a daily "blackjack happy hour". I think it ended at 7pm. Idk what time it starts where suited BJs pay 2:1

Some table offered a bet called the "In bet" where if the dealers card was inbetween your two cards, you got payed according to a payscale, I have never seen the bet before, but it appears to not be beatable by nature.

I looked at the buffet, and it sucked so I was on the road again.

It is not.

6-7pm. And they are mighty picky about the clock. Don't bother trying to argue with any PB that your cell phone clock is sync'd to the nat'l cell network's idea of time and his watch is fast -- if he thinks it's 7:01, abandon hope.

"In bet" == "In between," a bit of nonsense where you win if the dealer up-card value is between your two initial cards. Allowed bet range, $1-$5. Definitely a loser in the general case, though of course the hope of getting 30x pay for the 1-card range tempts quite a few. And it's annoying as can be, when most of the table is playing that, taking dealer time away from managing BJ to analyze 6 different in-bets and paying the occasional winner. It's all about hands/hour, and burning clock on that nonsense hurts. I'm at the table for BJ, not side bets.

Other casinos in the area have picked up the in-bet nonsense, more's the pity.

We tried it once; not worth the effort. The other restaurants, however, are quite nice. La Bonne Vie does fabulous steak and seafood (but not cheap), and The Gatsby, up the ramp from the hotel lobby, does a fair amount of reasonable food, including breakfast especially.

It is interesting that Mountaineer now has problems sometimes with appearing to be too busy, at a time when they have reduced hours on at least one of the pits, and another pit (the "warehouse" area) has been closed entirely, replaced with a poker pit that I was told has been moved into the main casino area from the racetrack building. I have hopes that this overly-busy appearance means that business is picking up, and they'll expand hours on open pits.

WV casinos did offer LS in response to PA's casinos having it, however my very reliable source in the area said WV will no longer offer LS beginning Oct. 1.

anyway, pretty surprising that the will make their games less attractive than PA when they lost a ton of business to them already.

That's funny. I was told just today in PM that LS is rather new to at least one WV casino (when I had thought it had been there all along). Is it going away in all WV casinos as a matter of law, or is this locale-specific?

actually what i find funny is that your previous post stated that surrender was not offered.

as i said, WV added it when PA got BJ...which was mid july...so, yes, it is relatively new.

i do believe rules of the the game are dictated by state gaming comiss, not each casino

It's true, LS is not available at Mountaineer. That's as BJgenius007 said in his post that started the thread.

Does this apply to Hollywood Casino? Last I heard, they didn't have LS
They didn't have it last week. I know PA rules are set by the state, but I have not heard that about W VA. It would be worth a google.

Mountaineer has never offered late surrender. Wheeling did/does, in response to the PA casinos.
Mountaineer Casino has never offered late surrender. Wheeling Island Casino offered late surrender one week after Pittsburgh casinos opened and still is offering late surrender. Both casinos get hit severely but Wheeling Island is coming back because they match what PA casinos offering and has better comps.
