Partiers may not know the odds, but if a high roller gets paid on his $500 blackjack $600 he will be out the door! He will notice that $150 difference. Many of the high rollers are educated and don't mind gambling but won't tolerate bing ripped off.

I agree. Low levels gamblers could give two shits about the odds on a game. But your black/purple players are more likely to care. That's why they prefer blackjack, craps and baccarat.

You don't see purple action on three card poker. I've only seen it once on roulette, but dozens of times on the big 3 games.

I have lived here since October. Because I have family and business interests in the St. Louis area, I'm moving back there soon. The casinos in St. Louis offer games and odds that are just as good if not better than most in LV. Moreover, Harrah's St. Louis charges a lower live poker rake than the Harrah's properties in LV. Harrah's St. Louis has 9/6 Jacks-or-Better and Harrah's LV has the crappy 8/5 version. There is no 6-5 blackjack in St. Louis yet.
This city is probably doomed. Casino bosses and city leaders think tourists will return when the economy improves. Wrong. They will come back to LV only if the casinos start offering odds that are better than those available in local casinos.
St. Louis may have games as good as Las Vegas but how many casinos are in the St. Louis area compared to Vegas? The strip alone (depending on how much you want to walk) easily has at least 20 or more casinos in a reasonable walking distance. And some have some very good games. Unfortunately most of the good games are quarters or higher. But if your willing to do do your scouting you can still play during mid morning or off peak hours when these games often can be played for 10 and 15 dollar minimums.

When I first went to Vegas about 18 yrs. ago things were a lot differrent. People complain about table minimums for good games being to high today. When I first went to Vegas you could play great games for 5 and 10 dollar minimums. Well the that was almost 20 years ago now and things change. As time goes by the cost of things goes up like milk, gas and the cost of playing blackjack.

If your gonna play more than a few hours on weekends once in a while (maybe 2 or 3 hundred hours a year) you need more than a couple of casinos to play at. I'm pretty sure that unless your losing money no St. louis casino will let you get away with that much time at there tables.

How many hours of play can be had in the St. Louis area before you get backed off?

If you put your time in and work the strip they do offer great games on budget prices if you do the work. But not at peak times. If you think your gonna go to the strip on a Friday or Saturday night and play 5 or 10$ will be disappointed.

I imagine you can play for quite a long time if you rathole and use a conservative spread in St. Louis.

But you're wrong, in off peak times in LV you won't find many games period. Then they appear during peak times for high prices.

In regards to blackjack card counters

I never stated blackjack card counters can find comparable opportunities in St. Louis or any other regional market for that matter. Counters need many potential targets and Vegas still has numerous venues. But I'm sure that even experienced and proficient counters will admit that the games in Vegas were much, much better ten or fifteen years ago than now.
I am speaking of gaming as a whole, and live poker in particular.

Solo must be equating great games with cheap games. I have found more cheap games early, but I wouldn't call them "great" games.

All I'm trying to say is people go to Vegas strip thinking they can get good games on the cheap (red chips) and then are disappointed when they find most good games green chips or higher. So they leave town thinking the place sucks.

Average tourists may not have a conscious understanding of the odds. But they feel it in the pocketbook. Even slot players-perhaps the most uninformed casino visitors-realize the slots in LV are generally no looser than those at their regional casinos.
Resort fees, taxi ripoffs, and other dubious practices exacerbate the situation.[/QUOT

If you can find a resort destination with cheaper rooms, cheaper food and cheaper car rentals, please let me know.
No argument about rooms and car rentals but food hasn't been cheap in Vegas for quite some time. Compared to other "resort destinations" it's probably reasonable but like other oldtimers I well remember the days of GOOD CHEAP food all over Vegas.
That has changed dramatically.

Got to disagree with that. There are some great places to eat in Vegas on the cheap. Hash house a Go Go even has a place on the strip. Great bargins can be found downtown- Prime rib dinners for $6 to $10, buffets for about the same. Great deals in Chinatown and the surrounding area- my favorite is the Pacfic Buffet on Sahara ( $9.95 all you can eat)
With just a little diligence, you can get all sorts of two fer coupons and discounts gazore from various websites. Even tix4tonite has plenty of bargins.

You're missing the point----------it used to be (20 years ago) cheap ALL OVER Las Vegas. No diligence or work needed to find it that way! (good 99 cent breakfasts, good $2 buffets and prime rib dinners everywhere).
I'm typically only there 3 or 4 days at a time and it's not feasible to pursue a five or ten dollar savings on a meal. I seldom buy drinks at the bars but those prices have risen greatly too.
Most of the problem is alleviated by comps but I don't like the occasional exceptions encountered.
I'm quite sure you knew what I meant the first time but felt the need to be your typically disagreeable self.

Vegas offers little value to APs and ploppies alike IMO.
Not to be argumentative, I find the abundance of free room offers to be a great advantage. For food, I generally live off the strip and know a ton of local places, but I will be getting coupons from Anthony Curtis this year to see how it goes. And, yes, I remember the old days when you could practically eat free all up and down the strip. Those days are long gone. :(

Not true. Read kewljason's and other's posts for the AP part. As for ploppies, most are willing to pay a certain amount for everything the city offers. Things like more gaming venues and top rate entertainment than anyplace else on the planet. Each to their own. I have a wealthy friend that goes there just for the hookers. (per capita, Vegas would rank highly in them too)

Gas was only $.78 as well, bread was ummm. what a quarter a loaf? Mortgages were $800 for a nice home? Prices are still good for the times. Surely you don't expect to get a .99 meal these days?

Only at McDonalds! :whip:

Actually, I've been comped some fabulous meals at Mandalay Bay the M Resort, and Palace Station. I used to get free and very good breakfast buffets at Planet Hollywood when I would stay there, but it's probably changed since Caesar's took over.

The difference you're not seeing is that gas went from 78 cents to $3.78 in that time and breakfast went from 99 cents to $8.99------that isn't even close to being directly proportionate.
Guess they need to make up for the better games someplace:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Whatever happened to the unalienable right of Americans to 30 cent a gallon gasoline?

Get on your bicycles, America!

Why are you being disagreeable. Billy has spoken and that is that. He evidently can't be bothered looking for what he wants and is understandibly that the casinos will not bring it directly to him.
