How about a trip report on the warehouse-converted Sands Casino PLEASE? Can you confirm Chaperone's remarks : "Sands is all 8 deck and way too crowded other than HL which is $100 min. Pen is average."?

Been there three times since they first started the tables. Crowding is a issue between the hours of 1:00 pm to 10:30 pm. I think it should be better as times pass once people got their first time there out of their system. I was there 2 nights ago and for some reason there was only 8 bj tables open. The dealers was at training from what I was told, so that night it was crowded even at 12:00 am. I don't know if that is good thing or not; as most of the dealers are new they have been making mistakes and most to the player's advantage. I saw one paying out first base and leaving the rest of the table push when the dealer have blackjack. You don't see that everyday. My best was few nights ago when I had 14-15 and the dealer pay the whole table even tho dealer have 17. Lol. :joker:. The min started out at $10 in the morning and raised to $25 by mid-day. Market demands. 8 decks is correct with csm and asm depending on table. Pen is 70-80%. s17, das, up to 4 splits. They do call out black action, although from my experience if I got 175-225 in green they don't normally say anything. 300 seems to be when they call checks. Dealers are friendly and so are most of the pit bosses. Try to get on their good side, less suspicious. Drinks are comped if playing. Comp money can be used for food if you have a member card. It's free, so go get one. You also can get $100 in free play on certain days if you got a card. Free play and comp money are seperate. They do have a gift shop, I don't know if I can use the comp money in it. I will ask next time. I think that about sums it up. Any other questions?

Another AP dislikes Sands. Here is his negative review: "...Did not like the place at all. Very dark. Very crowded. all 8 deck games....and not enough of them to handle the crowd. Penetration on the games I observed was not much better than AC..."

He is right about the crowdedness. First time they told me not enough dealers I believe them, now I don't know if they just want to fill every table.

Sands Bethlehem

Spent some time at Sands Bethlehem Thursday evening, Friday morning, and Saturday afternoon. The one overwhelming take away is their staff shortages and the inexperience of the dealers. They don't have any where near enough dealers, so many tables were not open and it can be hard to get a seat. Some of the dealers were pretty good, but some others were really, REALLY lousy -- making mistakes on every other hand that led to long delays (even getting the pit boss's attention sometimes took several minutes because they were so busy resolving issues at other tables) and in some cases led to arguments because the resolution offered did not necessarily seem fair to the players. I actually felt bad for the dealers, because many of them had clearly just finished the six-week training course and they are now thrown into the actual casino environment with a lot of people yelling and screaming at them, and there is real money involved. I have to imagine it is very easy to get rattled in those circumstances, and that probably just raises the likelihood of more mistakes. In truth, though, I think some of these people are really not cut out to be dealers.

Rumors I heard: 20 dealers had just quit a couple of days earlier because they couldn't handle the hours or the pressure cooker environment; also, they supposedly have a new class of dealers just about to finish the training course, so hopefully things will get better soon.

I understand the owners committed to hiring 80%+ of the staff from the local area, so that's good news for the local economy. But it also means -- a lot of inexperienced staff, at least for now.

On the positive side -- some of the dealers' mistakes are in the players favor, e.g., paying off when they shouldn't or declaring a push when in fact I had lost the hand. Silence is golden in those cases, of course. But the bottom line is that you have to watch what the dealer is doing very carefully, and make sure you call the out of the dealer makes a mistake in the casino's favor.

Other particulars: 8 decks, ASMs (I didn't see any CSMs), late surrender, DOA, DAS, Split to three hands (except aces), penetration seemed reasonable for the most part. No significant heat -- I think they are too busy watching over the dealers to worry about advantage players.

I play alot at Turning Stone and have become friendly with several dealers and pit bosses and they told me they lost alot of dealers there when the talbles opened up because a dealer from the stone could be a pitboss down there. Hopefully it gets better soon. We are planning a trip down in the fall. Just a note TS brought double deck back in $25-100 pit. They had 4 tables open friday night 3 $25 AND 1 $50

Baiting Alert! TS has used double deck games (DDGs) as baits from the beginning when DDGs were $100 minimum, and now DDGs are $25-$50 minimum due to the dry-up of high-rollers/suckers. Pitcritters have used all kinds of countermeasures against APs. The bottom line is this: all losers are welcome, & winners must take a hike, and Beat it!

New member...Have been lurking for about 6 months. I'm going down to the Sands in Mid August to try it out...Much better drive *45 minutes rater than 3 hours + traffic delays. My free room comps at Harrah's and Trump have all dried up. I only have Borgata comps left, but they are not free until Sept/Oct...

Anyway, besides the staff shortages, how is the overall feel of the table games? Older/younger crowd? High limit areas? Table Mins? I don't care about drink service anymore, as I have learned my lesson about drinking while gambling. Picked up a room at the Sheraton on Priceline for 36 bucks, so we'll be gambling from 8:00pm on...

One thing about A/C is that you know what hotels/casino to go to for a younger crowd. I really don't want to be sitting next to people without a personality, it's not fun.

Big fan of the board, and I will be posting a lot more in the future.

Where you coming from? I expect sands to have more dealers by mid-August; if not they are really only going to drive people over to other PA casinos. From the times I was there, the bj crowds are mixed from 20s to the seniors. On average I would say middle age people have the bigger share of the pie. As for atmosphere it depends on the people of the table. I usually like to talk, but there are times when I am the only one. But I think long as everyone is winning people will talk, going by past experiences here.

Coming from Northwest Jersey...Montague, NJ/Milford, PA to be exact. CT, and A/C are both 3 hours away. I have been to Mount Airy, and did not like the layout *Hopefully they have changed it with the table games addition*

Sands Report, let it rain.

Date: July 29 (Thursday), 2010
Location: Sands, PA
Time: 8pm - 3am
Tables available: 3_$15min and 2_$25min
Pen: 80-90% (6 shoes all with only 1 deck cut off!!!)
hello everyone, this is my first post after reading and studying for about 5 months now and the following is the telling of my first live trial of advantage play.

As said before in the prior post the sands is grossly understaffed and the dealer are slow, make mistakes, and are oblivious to an advantage player on the table. For example my bets ranged from $15 min bets to $150 at some points when the true count was +8. Also since the wait to get on a table is long it is not irregular to have 4-5 people behind the players watching. In fact i had been speaking to the player in front of me and as i was counting from behind i gave him $100 for him to play for me on top of his stack. He then proceeded to give it to the dealer for chips, which the dealer changed, then added it to his stack and the dealer continued to deal him out a black jack. Then the player took the winnings and gave them right to me. There was no call out from the dealer or look from the pit bosses at anytime during this event. I could say with certainty that if this was in AC this would not have been allowed and the shoe would have been shuffled. In the end I am plus $475 and hope to continue perfecting this new craft of mine.

This environment wont last for long so if your looking for a counter friendly casino the SANDS is your home.

I hope this was helpful, I'm still a novice by all means but i hope to give clearer and more concise reports in the future.
