The fine line between a helpful dealer and a cheat?

He could easily go to McDonald's and get a higher wage, but I guarantee you he won't because he is making a hell of a lot more then anyone working there with all his tips. So why complain so much?

When did I say I didnt like my job? Is it wrong to inform people of what makes dealers happy? The topic here is about how to have a good player/dealer relationship so as to increase the chances of your future trips being successful. It makes things much easier when the dealer likes you.

Its not just getting along with your dealer, but the pit staff as well. I cant tell you how much of a differance it made for Zengrifter at the casino I used to work for. He got to know the shift managers and floorman and was so friendly to them that they didnt even care to pay close attention to his play. Even when he started to get some heat from surveilence, the casino manager said that even if he was counting, he wouldnt care because hes such a nice guy.

EdgeCapper, I'm not trying to say anything bad against you, I'm just saying dealer's shouldn't be assholes to people who don't tip. They don't have to tip, but it's still your job to work for them since that's what you're getting paid for.

I used to be a waiter at a restaurant. It was rare, but sometimes people didn't tip at all. I could have chased them down into the parking lot and told them how I can't afford to live off of 4.50/hour, but that would just be rude. I've had several dealers complain out loud purposely for me to hear how they can't live off of 3.50 per hour. Well, I really don't care to hear it while I'm playing. I have the option to tip or not tip, just do your job and leave me alone.

So I've worked in a position depending on tips. Once I noticed they didn't tip, I don't give them attitude and stop serving them. I keep doing my job, because that's what i'm supposed to do. I just live with the fact they don't tip (for whatever reason) and move on. I could be a complete ass to them and give them bad service for the remainder of their stay, but what's the point?

To put this into a dealer's perspective. If one player isn't tipping, why only deal 40% and be a jerk to them? Doing that doesn't help you in any way, so it won't make up for the player not tipping. Why don't you just keep working like you're supposed to and get over it?

Even when the Casino Manager himself decided to watch me from the eye, it didn't matter because on that occasion I was hole-carding. He come down and said laughing, "Dalton, are you a card counter?" and I said, "Ya, one of the best!" and he said, "Well, thats not from counting," pointing at my stack of win. On a couple of occasions I was hole-carding while the CM was sitting with me at the table. He couldn't have been happier when I would split 10s w/ dealer 8 or stand 14 w/ dealer 10. z(TRUE NEOPHYTE)g

Ps - The particular dealer I was hole-carding above I found by spotting a LVHCM member at play. I've even followed LVHCM members to locate flashers. And despite all the blunderbuss and hyperbole of so-called REAL PROS who have graced our pages here with their elitism, I've seen them often only betting $100 per hand on 80% read. Woohoo!

A good dealer, like a good server, anticipates a patrons needs.
Are you saying that if you had regular diners who never tipped, that your service would be exactly the same as it would for the table next to them that always tipped 30%?
If you are tipping 2.5% of your winnings, and the dealer accidently says push when you should have lost a max bet, hows that effect your precious EV?
To answer your question-I'd say that he's trying to chase away the non-tipper so someone else has a seat at his table.Do you think only APs know how to chase an unwanted squatter?

Well, it SHOULD be. It takes just as much energy to be nice then it is to be an ass. Why bring all the negativity into the situation, just let it go.

Just the opposite for me. If I know im dealing with stiffs, I just deal and thats it. If they are taking care of us, I will do my best to entertain, which is easier said than done when your taking their money most of the time.

Well, that's fine if you just deal normally for the stiffs. You don't have to go above and beyond to make them have a good time because they aren't tipping. But you don't have to make it worse for them.

So if you just deal normally to people who don't tip, I say that's just fine. I just think it's stupid for a dealer to go out of their way to be assholes and make playing not fun anymore because someone isn't tipping them.
