The worst BJ game I've ever seen...

Just got back from a trip to Costa Rica. Most of the hotels there have small casinos. First, their version of BJ is called Rummy. Bacially, rules are the same as BJ, but there are a few payoffs for things like three 7's and a few others like a 3 card straight of the same suit. On the downside, BJ only pays 1:1.

Anyway, the hotel we stayed at in San Jose used 6 decks with a penetration of 50%! They were reshuffling (manually) after every 3 or so hands. Needless to say, I didn't play, but watched in amusement for a while.

Then it was like 25% pen... say a 7 ppl table, 2.7 cards per hand, 3 hands is around a deck..

But yeah pen sucks in many plances of latam.

21ForMe...Were you there for the second annual Poker Industry meeting held at the Marriott on Dec 8/9? I happened to be there last year during their meeting and met Doyle Brunson and Mike Caro. I'm surprised you didn't play a few thousand Colones ($6 US) attempting to get a Rummy....lol

When I was there I played at the Fiesta Casino and left for the bar after having a argument with a Rain Forest Reject Pit Boss. Good move because I then went to the Hotel del Ray and met a hot Tico who I spent the next two days with. Life is good...lol

Best, jim

Jim,
No, we were just there for vacation. I did pay a few hands at our hotel in Jaco, just for the heck of it (and lost $50.)

I'll be back at my usual haunt, the Borgata, for a couple of days between Xmas and NewYears, so maybe I'll catch you there.

My birthday is 12/31 and my host at the LVH made be an offer I can't refuse...lol I'm starting to feel guilty taking Hilton comp's and not playing a single hand during stay. Hope the weather is like last year. 55 high on both 30th and 31st. He has a 9 handicap at the Las Vegas Country Club and I am a 15 at Oakmont. Of course I'm a sandbagger, and would enjoy taking his December commission off him again this year...lol

Hope to see you in AC in the middle of January.

Best, Jim

Just to clarify Jim do you mean a Tico, or a Tica? If you really mean a Tico, well, it's not like there's anything wrong with that.

From what I have been told by friends who have been there, and from various websites, you don't go to Costa Rica for blackjack. You go for the Birdwatching. I hear some of the National Parks are beautiful.;)

You are correct. The wildlife is amazing. Besides birds, we saw lots of crcodiles, snakes, tiny (poisonous) frogs, monkeys, sloths, etc. Also, the fresh fruit is outstanding - fresh pineapple, papaya, etc.

If a decent blackjack game happens to be there, too, I wouldn't mind playing a bit. However, I did not bring anywhere close to a sufficient bankroll to play seriously , even if there was a decent game.
