When the tables are full...

Quite often I cannot find an open seat at any BJ tables. Well, maybe at a $50 min., but I don't feel like playing those :).

In order to kill time, until I can find a seat, what would be the best replacement game, that still gives you a reasonable chance of making a few bucks? Is it craps (I'm thinking of betting the pass line), or maybe video poker, or something else?

Your opinions are very much appreciated, as always.

Some video poker games can be very good, better than BJ. But many aren't. You need to learn to read the paytables, which are the key to the game.
There are dozens ,if not more, variations of VP and each one has a seperate and distinct strategy.

If you want a good table game, try Pai Gow or Mini-Bac, slow, low HE. Should be able to stick around for awhile as you do overwatch on the BJ tables.

I have heard that it is best to look for a 9/6, jacks or better, but what exacly does 9/6 mean?
I've done a research, because I wasn't familiar with the term either. 9/6 means that the payout on full house and flush is x9 and x6, respectively, which is better than the other payout options, such as 8/5, or 7/5, for example.

Thanks for the advices, guys. I think I may want to try the 9/6 sometime, if I can find it.

Yes, I've heard that mini baccarat has low HE. The problem is I've never played it. I think that the rules are pretty simple though.

Well, the best chance to make money would involve a game where you could find an advantage.

It can be done with the few, mainly in Nevada, positive-payout video poker machines.

If you're like to lose less, craps and baccarat might be good choices.

Thanks for the explanation.

Erroneous.
Well, then what are the others? You could argue poker, but that doesn't fit the criteria of killing time while waiting for blackjack. Poker is usually the longest wait in the casino.

Here are a few candidates:

Video Poker
Sports Betting
Big Six
Three Card Poker
Casino War
Baccarat
Keno
Roulette
Craps
Let It Ride

There are others as well, but this covers some of the more popular games.

At every casino I've been to (which, admittedly, is not many), you are required to stand by the blackjack table if you're looking for a seat at the blackjack table. Is this not the case with you?

So there is a method to gain a mathematically verifiable advantage over the house on each of those games?

Yes. In some cases there are a few different ways to get a mathematical advantage. Most of those situations are pretty rare, but they do happen.

As an example- On rare occasions, its possible to find a Big Six dealer who spins the wheel by rote. Each spin is exactly the same and you can clock the exact number of spins and where the wheel will end up. It is extremely rare, but it does happen.
How you would verify this mathmetmatically, I'm uncertain.
