which is better to play?

To all AP's out there!! Which is better to play? An eight deck shoe with a 1-1 1/4 deck cut off or a six deck shoe with a 2 decks cut off(penetration)? Im asking coz some of the threads that i've read here is saying that 8 deck shoe sucks and hard to beat but on the other hand what is good about 6 deck shoe with poor penetration. any ideas about this matter would help. thanks in advance!!!

Honestly - both of those scenarios suck. I'm always reluctant to play 6 deck with 2 chopped unless the rules are REALLY good. i.e. S17, DAS, RSA, DA3(double on any first 3 cards), BJ pays 2:1, suited BJ pays 3:1 - or the mins are REALLY low - or both!

I think 8 deck with 1 chopped isn't so bad, but I avoid 8D like the plague - I don't have a bankroll to spread appropriately against 8D and i do not have the patience to back count 8D. I'd say 8D is better, but either is fine if you are an avid wonger. In that case either game can be trounced with a simple level 1 count and a modest bankroll.

8 deck with one deck cut off is a great game for back-counters. Impossible with a play-all, but great for back-counting.

I'd take the 8D game

I've had some of my best single session wins playing an 8D game with pen at around 7.0/8.0. I also would never even consider playing a 6D game with pen at 4.0/6.0. I also avoid 8D games if the pen is worse than 6.8/8.0, so the conditions you described are very borderline for me.

If you play the 8D game, you'll need to backcount/wong or use a big spread. Since wonging usually isn't a viable option for me (I play at small casinos where there is often just one BJ game), I usually play all with a spread of 2x20:1 and end my session after finishing the first shoe where I get to my max bet.
