Why bother with the TC?

I'm learning hi-lo to play 6D, and I'm wondering why I ever need to know the true count. Why is the RC-to-TC conversion necessary? Can't you just memorize the RC values that are important? For example, if you only want to play a game with a TC of 2, then instead can't you just watch the discard tray? You see one deck there, then the RC needs to be 10. You see 2 decks, then the RC must be 8, and so on.

Sure, but you'll want to raise your bet again at +3, then +4 and +5 so you will need to memorize those number as well. You’ll also want to memorize the +1 and 0 numbers in case the count drops as the cards are dealt and you need to make an index play.

The memorization technique will work, but most people will find that a little division is easier than a lot of memorization.

It would be easier and more accurate to learn KO or equivalent INSTEAD of a balanced count. zg

Do you mean drop hi-lo altogether? Or do you mean master hi-lo, then learn and master an unbalanced count? The count resources you posted on the Counting Forum Sticky tend to push in the hi-lo direction. And I've probably got a year before I go back to the casino, so I'm all ears!

I'm just saying that IF you want to do away with TC conversion, thats OK, just switch to and unbalanced count and on't look back. zg

an unbalanced count

hello adt 33,
I use an unbalanced count-Kiss III described in Blackjack Bluebook II by Fred Renzey. Simply put, it gets the money.
