Actually I did this part right. He came downstairs to investigate, probably because of my plays deviated from BS.
So you decided, since he was there, to DEVIATE again???

Had I played perfect BS under his watch, he would have stayed longer to watch me more.
He knows the work of a Genius

Having seen the deviation is good for the casino, sent him immediately back upstairs with satisfaction.
So he could again watch you from above.

God? I suppose he does, doesn't he?

One of the best ploppy stories I have: a guy at the table at Mohegan is quite the religious fanatic, yelling after each hand that this place is controlled by Satan and we're all at risk of damnation for being there. So I told him- why then are you here? If I believed Satan was dealing the cards I wouldn't be playing. He heeds my advice and leaves, and my next hand is... 6-6-6. If he had still been there and seen that he would have freaked!
This is how we lost Mathman. He read Antichrist's post (near bottom) and never returned. z:laugh:g

Synchronicity.

Or put it another way, in this world you see what you expect to see.

Worst day. Worse session. Worst shoe. Worst 10 minute span in my BJ career.

My friend should take partial blame. Not long ago, he told me who the top gun of this casino surveillance team is. And today after I stayed at this table too long, suddenly the top gun came from upstairs, approached this table and stopped here. Now he was watching me play. My heart was pounding. Will today be the first time I got banned?

I have a pair of two's. The dealer's upcard is seven. TC is +3. I had $200 bet. I decided to do a cover play. Instead of splitting, I decided to play ploppy and just hit it. I got a nine. Now I had to hit again. And a ten bust my hand. The good news is top gun just left. But had I split, I would have had two perfect double down of 21. That is $1000 turnaround.

It is like God is punishing me for such a bad play. For the next few hands, I lost at 18, 19 then pushed at 20 and 20 again. True count is skyrocketed. Everyone else had at least one Blackjack for their $25 or $50 bets. And now TC is +10, I decided to bet $500, got a pair of fives, double down, got a two, lost that hand. It seems to be a good chance to play a ploppy chasing the loss, I did something I never done before, I bet $1,000. Actually my max bet at this casino is $450. Double down my 11 and get an ace. No doubt the dealer made his hand to end my miserable day.
He was probably just stretching his legs and getting a breath of fresh air (compared to the stuffy 40X40 room he sits in with all the monitors giving off so much heat).

Chasing your losses by increasing your max bet just because you are losing is a dangerous habit to develop. If anything a big loss should cause you to decrease your bet because your bankroll has shrunk. If anything I'd be more inclined to split 22 v 7 in a higher count. For example, 33 v 8 becomes a split in higher counts, presumably because of the value of catching the odd double down. I don't really recommend the use of cover, but especially not when you are in max bet territory. I'm curious about how much your play cost you in terms of EV.

4 v 7 returns -0.088 for hitting. Not bad.

2,2 v 7 returns 0.006 by splitting. Significantly better.

Presumably, the difference between these plays increases at higher counts.

So it looks like you cost yourself around $27 in EV by choosing to hit, as you go from a half a point advantage to a nine point disadvantage. This is pretty substantial!

Negative variance happens. It is important not to let this affect you or tilt you just because you get a string of bad luck. And don't be afraid to walk away a loser once in a while either. There is no shame in quitting when you are stuck.
