Just saw someone stand on A5 versus 10, even after it was explained to them that they can only improve.

Yes they won the hand.

I've seen a person double down when they had a 5 vs 3

I've said it before, but i recently saw a player who would hit just about every 17, 18, 19 or 20 they got against any dealer up card.

Run into these players quite often. Nothing really that rare about them, even found on high limit tables. Not long ago I was playing a double deck game where I could read the dealers hole card about 3/4 of the time. I am stuck, going to take my loss because I have an 18 against the dealer's 9 up and ace in the hole, but the other player on the table has a pair of 4's and a $500 bet. So he splits them and gets a 7 on the first and doubles, gets a 9 and the second 4 and proceeds to bust. Double card turned out to be a 10, so he lands up ahead on the hand and announces for the world, "that's how you play blackjack!"
For anyone here who has holecarded and tried to look like that stupid player who takes some crazy hits or stands at times when bs says not too, you can understand how nice it might be to have a player like this guy on your table. So I double my nine against the dealer 10 (he had a 6 in the hole) but only after asking this guy for advice and telling him that I had a strong feeling I would hit an ace. He tells me to go for it. I win, dealer busts and a few minutes later a regular at this casino takes a seat. Dealer gives him a look at me and the other guy and shakes his head as a warning to the regular that we are crazy players. We had the table to ourselves and while the other guy did take a beating, I had a great session and stayed perhaps twice as long as usual for a hole card session because I think this guy helped create some decent cover. If wrong, I will find out in a month or so when I return.

Wow. There should have been an intervention - that's like serving a drunk guy another drink or something lol.

He gets my vote for WPE :)

Thats nothing. I just got home from a bj tournament and got 2nd to a guy that double downed on a hard 17 and caught a 3 to beat me.

Was it on the last hand, and you had a chip lead?

That's what I was wondering - it could have been an excellent play!

I'd love to learn more about tournament BJ. Wong's tips are OK as far as they go but they don't go very far.

Ken - get that book out! Are u nuts? What are u waiting for? I really have to believe you're one of the best in the world at it. U at least thinking about it?

worseir player

I had a the rare experience of playing with a guy that wouldn't take more than two cards. He refused to take a third card after the deal no matter if was two aces or whatever. He had the mentality of a rock and it showed. I played a few shoes just to see how much money he'd lose but he didn't quit while I played. I would have to geuss he didn't have a clue as to how to play or he might of thought he was playing baccaurat. blackchipjim

I saw a person NEVER take a card if he had a hard 15 or higher, and against a 8-10 he would not hit a 13. He would off and on hit a 12 against any card, and only once did I see him hit a Soft 17.

He kept losing and was acting surprised by this...

I laughed alot.

My favorite ploppies are the ones that won't hit a stiff. When the count gets high, they don't eat up cards which sometimes allows an extra round at the end of the shoe.

Well there actually are index numbers for that play, even the 5 vs 3 avs mentioned earlier.

But I doubt he knew it lol.

One of my favs is the guy at 1st base that left the table after he stood on a 17 and the next guy got a 3 saying he knew he should have hit it lol.

He was actually very pissed lol.

Clueless!

I'm probably the worst player I ever saw. I used to think that I should hit anything under 17, no matter what the dealer had. I figured if the dealer must hit up to 17, then that must be the best way for me to play as well. Absolutely clueless!
