Boxed Card

A face up card in deck or shoe. Treaded as non-exitent, placed with discards. I did not now the answer to this question, but the first match on goole explained exactly.

Agree with definition, disagree with disposal

Yes, a boxed card is one turned upside down within the shoe. It can often be spotted when next to be dealt or sometimes when the dealer has turned his first card and boom it comes out as his second card.

It is purely a casino error, which in my interpretation of "how things should be done" the solving should always be in the players favor.

So the dealers hole card is exposed by the boxed card, would love to see it burned if the dealer has a strong hand but if not, you just hit to you push or beat the dealer. Had one instance about 3 years ago where this ASM would continuously box perhaps 6-8 cards per 6 deck shoe. Boxed the dealers hole and the dealer had 19, I have 19 also but it has boxed the next card and I can see it is an ace, so I hit and get 20. Pit laughs and states, "dealer can keep his boxed card, you can keep yours."

At this casino generally boxed cards played but if you got the right pit, he would do the right thing if the boxed card hurt your hand and let you bow out, taking your bet back.

The thing to remember is that the casino will do what they want but if worth the effort, you should be willing to bring to the attention of the pit or even his boss, that the boxed card was not your doing, was an error of the casino and the player should not be punished because the casino goofed. Example: In Vegas I get a boxed ace on my face and the dealer calls the pit, who happened to be a dual rate. Pit says it is their policy to burn all boxed cards. My sarcastic reply, "so it is your policy to punish the player for your mistakes?" He tells me the card could have been a 5, so I ask for his boss. When the boss comes, I just tell him, upside down, right side up, whatever it is an ace and I really want to keep it. I get 3/2 but I also got a pissed critter because I went over his head, so I left shortly after.

In all fairness, I think boxed cards, good, bad or whatever, should really just play. Overall, they favor the player. You might know the next card out of the shoe or you might see the dealers hole card. If the dealer is strong, he would have been strong anyway had not the card been boxed, so there is nothing bad to us about boxed cards. It does not happen often enough to make a measurable difference but they do not hurt

P.S. Older ASM's, perhaps needing maintenance seem to box cards often.

A while back, I was backcounting a shoe game, I noticed that a blue card had somehow inserted itself into the red card deck in the ASM. Dealer and players didn't see this (face up game, I only saw it from seeing the card out of the shoe). A pit critter was nearby so I told him there was a wrong-color. So then there's TWO pit critters examining all of the cards in the discard tray to figure out what happened.

And I thought to myself "Why did I bring all this attention to the table when I wasn't even playing?" and walked off before I did something even stupider.
