First off,I'm far from an expert, but here is my opinion.
Speed Count is a good beginners system. Easy to learn and fairly effective.
Its not bad for your first trip to a casino or a vacation.
However,it is not a system to learn for the long-run.No serious BJ player should stick to using this once they get the hang of playing. So ultimately, the time spent learning it can be said to have been wasted,as it won't be used that much. But I think its a very good intro into the world of card counting.
I'm not aware of casinos putting much heat on speed counters,so you need no cover.

what is speed count?
Speed count is basically the same thing as the OPP system. There are a lot of old threads about both systems. It is a simplified counting strategy that only counts high cards vs. all cards. It is a very weak system but it can give you a slight advantage in some games.

I completely agree with Shadroch. Speed count is not much easier than KO or HiLo and it is only about 33% as powerful. The profits will be tiny and the bankroll requirements are huge. It is a good system for recreational players and tourists who only play a few hours each year for fun, but no serious players use it.

I will be probaby betting between $25-200 , depending on the count. I will be playing at Riverboat Casinos in the midwest.
If you play shoe games you will probably not get any heat at all. If you play DD games you might get some heat at first, but I doubt it will lead to anything.

Yup. Betting bananas on a riverboat will get you attention no matter how you play. A 1-10 spread in blacks is what most pit critters are trained to look for. Even the dumb ones (okay, most of them) will keep an eye on you even though they don't know what to look for. Even if you are playing terribly they will keep their eye on whoever has the largest action. Not only are they watching you but they are watching the dealer as well. A simple mistake with a payout or color change could mean big money.

Your bets will depend on the size of your bankroll. You don't want to bet too much because you will likely lose it all during a bad swing.

Yup, from what I understand counting increases your odds a lot, but there is still the chance that you might lose, and you don't want those losing chances to be when you put half of your bank roll in. Someone else here said on another thread, the longer you can last with big bets the better.

i just read the book, and i wasnt impressed, besides that the largest advantage in ALL of the charts in the back INCLUDING a 1-15 bet spread on a good double deck game was +.75, which required something crazy like a $40,000 bankroll for a $10 player
