    The poor card counter?

If I may borrow from Bjarg, whether a player starts with a modest or magnificent bankroll and whether they win or lose, there are some people who will always be losers...

    need advise

I give credit to people who are willing to learn. The first Blackjack book I ever bought was published by a turtleneck/blazer wearing charlatan, who need not be mentioned. Later I found out what that book was worth and have since acquired, read and continue to study from the masters...

    Figuring bet spread

Many valid comments. It's interesting that many of the opinion answers you get on the boards are skewed depending on the nature of the player giving the answer. I don't mean that in a bad way, but for the game described, using hilo full indices you might expect about $48/hour with 80% pen...

    BJA(3d) App C Insurance

It’s 6D S17 DOA RSA RS3 LS play up to 3 spots at table min. Fair to poor penetration depending on the dealer. Not bad as far as 6d rules, but, yah, the tax kills it. I suppose it’s similar to paying an ante but only when you win. I’m a recreational player and while profit is always a...

    BJA(3d) App C Insurance

Gosh - No offence taken at all! I appreciate your (and others) time and effort in responding and adding to my personal knowledge base. Sometimes a relevant tangent is more interesting than the OP. Sometimes wildly off course, but to each his own...this was a beneficial one, to be clear. I...

    BJA(3d) App C Insurance

I was just re-reading BJA(3d paperback edition) and was looking at table C1 in App. C - Effect of Rule Variations. I'm a bit confused about the entry on Insurance at the bottom. It shows a negative impact therefore reducing the player's edge. Since Insurance is the most important index...

    Adjusting Pivot for Deck Penetration

I think the point is that the Effect of Removal is what drives the validity of counting. To the extent a card is not removed, it can have no bearing on a specific outcome for a count system. Unremoved cards have potential that is derived from analyzing which cards have been removed which...

    Side Bet Bonanza

Thanks Don, that is a great link. I'm going to save that... Looking at the True Count Won/Lost table (using 6D H17), if I take a stab at it, it looks like at +3 BJ is about 5.5% or 17:1 which is the good side of the bet. That is if a non-math guy got it correct.

    Adjusting Pivot for Deck Penetration

If you get CVCX from Qfit you can see penetration has a significant effect on returns. But as Meistro notes, anything after the cut off is completely irrelevant.

    Side Bet Bonanza

Well that’s a lot easier of a stat to remember! So maybe not a carnival sucker bet, but still a -EV bet. Unless you’re counting, I suppose. I wonder if one of the number gurus has run a table to indicate the increase of frequency of BJ at specific counts?

    Side Bet Bonanza

Seems to me that if you’re using HiLo, you’re not counting 7,8 and 9 which are critical cards for most of those bets. 9 especially as it can figure in 18 (9,9) and 19. With your regular count you might find the edge on the 20 or 21 bets. If memory serves (I stand to be corrected on that)...
