    What is a ploppie?

I'm new here to, but from what I've read I think a ploppie is a blackjack player who doesn't follow BS and just plays based on their intuition.

Won $110 in 2 hours yesterday.

I still don't completely understand this. Every time you go to the casino, it's a new day. If you win $100 one day, what exactly is going to stop you from winning $100 the next time you go. And the next? And the next? It's a new day each time you go. Sure, the house advantage...

Won $110 in 2 hours yesterday.

Gotcha. So basically from my understand it comes down to two things: 1. It's expected that you will lose more in the long run because the house always has that advantage. It's expected, but it doesn't have to happen that way. 2. The game is a mix of luck and a little skill. Players that...

Won $110 in 2 hours yesterday.

I know the house always has the advantage. What I don't get is why people always say, "you will eventually lose money in the long run because of the house advantage." A buddy of mine is like +2000 dollars over the past 2 months. What prevents a player from winning $100 or more each time they...

Huh? I didn't think we would be allowed to have a chart right there at the table, which is why I left in in my car. I wouldn't want to get kicked out or anything.

Won $110 in 2 hours yesterday.

I'm a rookie and I was betting the minimum most of the time ($5), so I think I did fairly good. Rules: 8 deck, dealers hits soft 17, peek I was up $150. The last hand I put a $20 bet in and got an 7,4. Dealer turned over an Ace (dammit!), but I still followed the basic strategy and...

Going to the casino tomorrow. Questions on basic strategy.

Oh, I follow you now. I just remembered that the dealer also checks the hole card before anyone plays if they have a 10 or ace. So if the dealer had a BJ then no one would have the chance to split or DD because the hand would be over if the dealer had BJ.

Going to the casino tomorrow. Questions on basic strategy.

If I split or double down and lose the hand then I would lose both bets. I'm just confused as to what "peek" means. The dealer looks at the hole card BEFORE anyone plays their hand IF the dealer has an ACE face card. Other than that, the dealer does not look at the hole card until everyone...

Going to the casino tomorrow. Questions on basic strategy.

When they show a face card ACE, they look at their other card to see if they have blackjack. If they don't show a face card ACE, then they don't look at their other card until everyone has played their hands. Give that, should I say that it is "peek" or "no peek" then? I know for sure there...

Going to the casino tomorrow. Questions on basic strategy.

I want to make sure that I have the right chart. This is what I know about my local casino: 1. There are either 6 or 8 decks. I noticed that the charts don't change at all between the 6 deck and 8 deck chart, so this shouldn't matter. 2. Dealer must hit on soft 17. It says right on...

Yeah at the casino I go to the dealer must always hit on soft 17 (ace, 6).

I think I have the correct chart, but what does "no surrender" and "peek" mean?

Awesome, thanks guys. So I'm guessing the basic strategy is based off tons and tons of played hands? I will take your advice and just follow the chart no matter how I feel about a certain situation.

Going to the casino tomorrow. Questions on basic strategy.

Been using basic strategy for a few weeks now and I've been winning (although not that much), so I'm still a rookie. I just printed out a chart from the website and I had a couple questions. 1. Why would you split two 9's if the dealer shows a 8 or 9 face card, but if they show a 7 then you...
