(Subtitled: Better have enough cash)
I admit it, I won’t go to the casino without a more than adequate trip bankroll, RoR of less than 1% for the time I‘m expecting to play if I can help it. And the other day’s hand really made me glad I have that rule. Most money I’ve ever had on the table at one time on one hand.
Having lost for the better part of 2 hours, down 7 max bets with the 8th on the table I received a pair of 7’s vs. a 4 in a very high pos count.
I reached into my pocket and extracted another max bet to split, then reached in again for my double when I pulled a 3. Then again to split when my second 7 received another 7. Then again to double when the second 7 received an ace. Then again to split when the third 7 received another 7. Then again to double when my 4th seven received an ace.
So I have 7 max bets on the table, two 18’s, a 17, and a 13 vs. the dealer’s four. He has an ace in the hole (not good), pulls a face (getting better), pulls another ace (ugh, come on, bust) and finally an 8 to bust. Easy to see in hindsight if I’d have not been properly capitalized the dealer most likely makes a hand and I lose it all.
I was finally able to breathe again and it pulled me back to only one max bet down. The last deck of the shoe didn’t go so well but I left only 2.5 max bets down.
So my moral here: #1: I’m certainly glad he busted. But #2: Thank God I had the bankroll to split, resplit, and double. And that I didn’t have a heart attack in the process.
BTW, he was one of those dealers that loves to tease you as the cards come out, pulling them slowly, chatting while re-adding his hand before pulling the next one. Come on, get on with it, you’re killing me here…….
