Are some APs "luckier" than others?

Believe it or not, a card counter wrote that he won 8 days consecutively from the same casino. He listed the winnings as follows:


Day 1 $ 17,000

Day 2 $ 11,000

Day 3 $ 2,500

Fourth day + $ 6,000

Fifth day + $ 8,500

Sixth day + $ 4,000

Seventh day + $ 1,000 (recouped from a $ 17,000 loss!)

Eighth day + $ 3,000


How lucky could he get! he didn't get halfshoed or blacklisted by that casino. As far as I know, he told the truth. As for me, I can't get that lucky. I cannot ever play BJs 8 days straight within the same casino "unharmed" ! Name and details are withheld for obvious reasons.

The last 1,000 hours have been an utter nightmare with the dealer continually drawing out to 21 with bust cards showing and max. bets out.


Just an unbelievable run with wild swings. Every time I play the dealer either has a 20 or 21 or draws to it.



I am currently in the middle of an almost equally horrific losing streak. Every time I have a monster count with the big money out there the dealer almost always draws out on me to a higher hand. All you can do is play on knowing you have the advantage. You never know when the next big win streak will start. "

I absolutely agree! I have seen this first hand! I was with another AP outside of my hunting grounds and this young fella either had awsome (stupid) cover or he really didn't know what the hell he was doing and had no business at the table!

There's one casino I've never lost at, and coincidentally enough played there about 8 times. I lost there finally. Well to take a positive out of it, I was able to go back there the next day after the loss to try to extract some vengeance, I was kind of avoiding the place because I've been winning there consistently too much.

No where near the money in the OP though

I do have to say I find it a bit dubious the AP won that much money in that many consecutive days.

The fact is, for an AP luck is just something that happens in both directions as you plow ahead with skill. It's like the wind, sometimes it's a tailwind that favors your progress, and sometimes it's a headwind that impedes your progress, but it's your own engine that is always pushing you forward toward your destination. Absent your engine, you're just a glider dependent on forces beyond your control. So, yeah, some airplanes can get there sooner than others, and yeah, some gliders can even get there with favorable winds, but all things being equal, an airplane will almost always get there sooner or later. So which will you take on your next trip to Vegas, a glider or an airplane? Oh, yeah, it helps to have enough fuel and a good pilot, too. :grin:

I am on a 6 session in a row winning streak. I play long sessions even climbing out of some down swings. It def can happen.

I was on vacation and it was the only casino in town. In the first Casino, he played its single-decker with surrender option and made 6,000 bucks in the first day. Unfortunately he got 86ed by the casino staff [It's so ironic! This super AP is a future Inductee, but he got 86ed by the casino staff of Max Rubin. Max is a Blackjack Hall of Famer and teaches the staff how to catch APs :cry:!]

After eighty-sixed by the Max' staff, he went to play double-deckers in Casino A and B which were recommended by a JohnnyC's prodigy. He won 90,000 bucks from Casinos A & B.

After Casinos A & B, he went to whack Casinos C & D. He won $34,000, totaling $130,000 winnings during this trip. Not bad, heh?

In the short run luck is mostly variance.

Winning multiple sessions in a row is not hard. Don't stop when losing and quit when ahead.

Session outcomes are not really important, all play is continuous. Though some may sleep better winning. See above on how to win more sessions.

I don't like challenging you, my friend, but what exactly do you mean by that definition of luck, which on the surface seems a contradiction in terms?

The word "luck" is meant for short term use only as it changes rapidly. How about this------IF you're lucky enough to live a long time, you'll have a lot of good luck, a lot of bad luck and a lot of "in between" luck (much like AP)

I just got back from Vegas and my EV was probably $60,000 but I made about $9,700. But hey I'm not complaining because for the first week and a half I was down about $4,000.

Am I the only one who thinks that the bad-variance horror stories outnumber the accounts of good variance by a healthy margin?

There is no shortage of hair-raising tales of extended brutal bitch slappings, but few comparable ones of 200 hours yielding 3x expected return.

I wonder if huge upswings seem to most of us as if we earned them.
