Maybe to save some face in the rare event a civilian had been lucky enough to bet with the count?WABJ11 said:Why are all back offs the same? The floor guy asks you to step away from the table, says you cant play 21, and then sends you on your way. They never mention anything about card counting. Why?
The only time I was backed off they said I was too good at blackjack and was not welcome to play blackjack but could play any other game. It came on the fourth morning as I approached the pit to play. I had clocked about a dozen good wins without a loser. I had a max bet out of over $200 the day before from a table min of $10 as a min bet. I was making tons of index plays and was very fortunate the way the cards fell. Most Interesting Man said:They won't tell the truth: "Excuse me sir. Variance is why blackjack exists: it allows the poor player to believe he has a winning game, and keeps the game profitable for the casinos. Most Interesting Man said:They won't tell the truth: "Excuse me sir. I'm not a lawyer, but my guess would be that mentioning card counting might be considered an accusation that they can't back up with facts. There could be legal ramifications. "You're too good for us" is sufficiently vague.WABJ11 said:In all my back offs, which have occurred in various states they never ever have mentioned card counting. I guess my question is why can't they mention card counting in their back offs?
It is legal. People have won cases in court that decided to say using your brain is not allowed when you play is a ludicrous suggestion. Are we to flip a coin for every decision we have to make. If they don't mention card counting you can't beat them in court.WABJ11 said:In all my back offs, which have occurred in various states they never ever have mentioned card counting. Been AP for only 7 months and just got B/O for first time in PA store. Shift Manager came to me at the start of a plus count and said to me...."We've determined that you are counting cards and we don't want your business anymore.....You need to color up and leave." As I said, it's my first B/O so I thought this was the norm. Maybe I can get back in legally?Shoofly said:I'm not a lawyer, but my guess would be that mentioning card counting might be considered an accusation that they can't back up with facts. If they determine that you're a skilled player, they're not going to care if they saw you playing a sucker game. And playing one of those games 1/3 of the time (even with a decreased bet--these games have a house edge more than four times blackjack) is just giving away money and wasting time in the process.CountOnMe said:Would it hurt to play games like 2-5-7 Poker or Let it Ride one third of the time with a 1/4-1/2 min bet?
The first clue that you are a counter has to be that you do not make large errors and the second that you play NOTHING BUT Blackjack
Even if they thought you might be skilled at BJ, they might look at your play at other tables as a peace treaty.
You can always return after a backoff, there's no legal issue there. But you'll want to wait a few months and play on a different shift, maybe. The worst that will likely happen if they see you again and realized that you've already been backed off would be for you to get backed off again or barred.jaygruden said:Been AP for only 7 months and just got B/O for first time in PA store. I definitely have to disagree with this. If you plan on doing anything other than card counting in a casino, getting busted for card counting is a disastrous mistake! A backoff is a de facto barring, as far as longevity at the place is concerned. If you've been backed off at a place, would you really feel comfortable playing other games there on the same shift?creeping panther said:A multitude of opportunitys in a casino.
A back off allows you back in to take advantage of other things that can be far better than BJ,,OTOH, a trespass is deadly in that you cannot take advantage of the other fine things that are available or may become available
I am confused by the above paragraphLonesome Gambler said:I definitely have to disagree with this. Are you that naive ( or brazen) that when you go to play another game, you think they won't be keeping a close eye on you when your record shows you've been barred from BJ for counting?creeping panther said:I am confused by the above paragraph
You can be backed off from BJ and told "you can play any other games" that leaves all wide open for the AP to pursue as he/she see's fit, and there are a plethora of opportunity, some better than BJ.
