betting system ??

Hi

I am all new to BJ, but i have a question.
I dont know what all the different bettingsystems are called, but i just wanna know if this is any good.
startbet 1 unit, increase one unit at wins, untill i win the 5 unit bet. If i loose i start at one unit again.
Is this any good ???
I have played many hands practicing at home, and it seems to be working ok.

Well, I guess you have to evaluate how many times you are going to encounter streaks of 4 and 5 wins during your play.

You lose compared to flat betting if you win the first and lose the second.
You lose if you win the first two and lose the third. ($5 less than flat).
You are even with flat betting if you win three and lose the fourth.
If you win the fourth in a row, then you are $10 ahead of flat betting.
If you win all 5 in a row and start over at 1-unit, then you will have scored a nice $75 profit if my math is correct.

The way I see it is that you are risking your BR on winning 4 and 5 in a row. You might be able to make it pay off if you have enough of a bankroll to ride out a choppy deck (win/lose/win/lose will kill you!) Even win/win/lose will hurt you though you will win a little.

Nightguide, I don't know what you want out of a betting system, but you won't find one that will consistently win you money. Card counting is the closest to a sure thing, if you could call that a betting system, and even that won't win ALL the time.

Most systems will just make you lose your money quicker. My advice would be to find a fairly conservative system if you must use one, but I'd just set a limit on how much you'll gamble, and have stops set for both win and loss. Just play for fun, because unless you are cardcounting, you'll just be slowly losing money.

If you play in Vegas or Atlantic City and use what is referred to as basic strategy,AND make generous use of both the matchplay and funbook coupons that are out there,your losses can be kept quite small and be more than offset by the comps the casino will give you.Then,as you progress into counting cards,you'll see if the effort it takes is worth your while.Its not for everyone.

I don't mean to burst your bubble but basic strategy is a negative expectancy game so your method of increasing your bets without the advantage will cause you to lose money more quickly. The only time you should ever increase your bet is when you know you have the advantage. The only way to know this is by card counting. You may be up so far but have you used a large enough sample size like at least 10,000 hands played? Over on the wizard of odds site they have proven progressions don't work!

I think there is a point of semantics here Systems Trader. "Basic Strategy" isn't negative in expectation. It's "Blackjack" that with most table rules is negative expectation (I know of no current BJ game that is positive expectation any more unless it's involved with some sort of promo.)

But nit picking aside, you are of course, absolutely correct...with very few exceptions any more, you will not have a positive expected return on a Blackjack table unless you count and are aware of the probabilities so that you can increase your bets to take advantage of it.

The point about "comps" NYbear is interesting. I guess your point of view on comps might go a long way toward determining your overall attitude toward the game. If you get comps because you play Blackjack, then you are probably a very serious BJ player. If you play Blackjack because you get the comps, then you are probably more of a recreational player.

Comps are a funny thing

I don't know why I get the level of comps I do. everything I read says BJ is not comped highly.
I get on a normal month-4 nites at Harrahs(AC),four or more at Sands(AC),several at the Trop(AC),plus two at Harrahs or Rio(Vegas),plus offers from the Stations,Fiesta, and El Cortez.Plus some from Laughlin.
My last trip to Vegas I got four nites from Harahs,two pre-comped and the other two were comped based on total rewards earned. I work the system very well. Showboat in AC has a couple of days where you earn double or triple rewards those day. I try to play only those days.I aslo
get numerous matchplay coupons both direct from the casinos and thru magazines I subscribe to(LV Advisor,Casino Player,American Casino,ect)
I find that as long as you stay away from the bigger resorts,BJ players get nice comps.
I've never asked a pitboss for a buffet comp and been turned down.
I do throw an occasional $20 in a nickel or penny slot machine(luv the new star Wars game) but I don't think that really gets me much.
I suspect my frequency( 30 or so nites in AC and 20 in Vegas) counts,as well as that I play mostly Mon/Tues and go to Vegas during slow periods.
Were I to play simple BS and lose at the rate one can expect,my 50 free nights and 70 meals would far outstrip my losses.

While I've gotten meals regularly, only a few times have I been comp'd rooms. I do get casino rates on rooms. My wife gets free offers from everywhere but she plays slots exclusively.
