Carded in AC...

Looking for insight...

was at a casino in AC last week and as I was deciding to back-count a few rounds, to get my feet wet, I was approached by a PC and asked for my ID.

I hadn't even sat to play or been there that long... My history with this joint is almost non-existent. Been there 2 times before, but played only once for a little over an hour - won about $200 that day. My best guess is that I was standing too close to the table and they may have thought I was getting ready to pickpocket or something...

I was kinda pissed and surprised at the same time but since I was planning on playing low stakes, with my player's card, I figured they would have my info regardless and therefore I showed them my ID. They looked me for a few minutes and I stared back, smirking, at all of them... I watched a little tv by the tables, then proceeded to sit down in the same pit. Mostly flat-betted to avoid detection and chatted up a storm with the dealer and table-mates, but when the time was right I raised my bet(s). In and out in 35-40 minutes with $120 profit - and I colored up. Chatted with the PC's all the way through and one of them kiddingly asked me for ID on the way out -- and smiled.

Thoughts?

Do you look like you are under 25? Harrahs wants their pit to ask for id from anyone who looks like they are 25 or younger.

OK, there's the obvious question- are you a young guy or an old guy? An underage player is a serious, expensive (for the casino) offense in AC and if you are young-looking at all you can be certain their concern was with your age and not anything else.

Underage people would tend to sit at a table and not play. You fit the profile. They just want to see you're over 21. They won't even remember your name.

I perfectly understand how expensive it can be to have a minor at the tables, I'm in the bar/restaurant biz and the same applies for underage drinking. I guess I could be mistaken (flattering), for underage as I'm in my early 30's, short in height but def a grown man, complete with grays and whites...
Also, I wasn't carded at the table - I was carded outside the pit, behind the table, as I was about to stand and back-count for a few. I didn't notice the PC as he was outside the pit and carded me. At first I thought he was security or something.

If the staff thought you might be under 21, they can card you anywhere in the casino. You are not supposed to be in the casino at all if you are under 21.

On the playing floor. The usual rule is your feet cannot touch the carpet, under-21 are welcome to patronize the shops and restaurants around the perimeter. There is usually a non-gaming path from the door to everything a minor could legally go to, concert hall, etc.

Harrahs properties ask if you look under 25, Borgata will ask even if you're there everyday and they know you. I never had a problem at Resorts, Trump, or Tropicana.

Nope, not Trump. Weird though - they were obviously watching me in order to stop me on my way to the table... I think I played it well by flat betting red chips for a while and chatting up with everyone, including the PC's...

Gonna go back for a short session during a different shift and then again during the same shift to see what happens.

Yes, I meant in the gaming area. The carpeting is more of a Vegas thing.
In AC, you must be able to get from the front entrance to the front desk to the rooms without entering a gaming area. Try doing that in many Vegas resorts.
