Casinos in Ottawa - Lac Leamy & Rideau Carleton (Hard Rock) - Conditions Report

#1
If you ever find yourself in Ottawa to count, here are the conditions:

Lac Leamy
8D DAS NS H17, Double any two, One card After splitting Aces
$25-1000
3:2 BJ, some 6:5 for $15 min bet tables.
Mid-shoe entry allowed, but limited to $100 max bet, up to 3 hands
Auto Shuffled, dealt from a shoe
No CSM
Pen ranges, between 5.75/8 to 6.5/8 very rare you will find 7/8 pen - depends on dealer discretion.
Blazing 7s progressive, & Lucky Lady side bet

6D DAS NS S17, Split any two cards, One card After splitting Aces
$50-2000 & $100-2000
3:2 BJ
No Mid-Shoe Entry
Play up to 3 hands
Hand shuffled
Lucky Lady side bet
Pen Ranges between 4/6 to 5/6, average is going to be closer to 4.25/6 - depends completely on the dealers discretion.

Heat - generally not very aggressive, but I think they care. If they suspect a card counter, they will cut the deck in half at 50% pen. I think they rely on surveillance to spot counters, and the pit boss will only care if there is crazy winning (like winning $5k+ very quickly) before they call upstairs.

Other comments - dealers here are pretty fast and know what they are doing. Many experienced dealers here, and a number of them are career dealers.

Rideau Carleton (aka Hard Rock)
8D DAS NS H17, Double any two cards, One card After splitting Aces
$25-2000
3:2 BJ, some 6:5 for $15 min bet tables.
Mid-shoe entry allowed, I don't think there is a limit
Auto Shuffled, dealt from a shoe
No CSM
Pen ranges, between 6/8 to 7/8 - they use some kind of guideline on the side of the shoe.
Match the dealer side bet

6D DAS NS S17, Split any two cards, One card After splitting Aces
$50-5000 & $100-5000
3:2 BJ
No Mid-Shoe Entry for the $100 min bet, but mid-shoe entry allowed for $50 min bet.
Play up to 3 hands
Hand shuffled
Match the dealer side bet
Pen Ranges between 4/6 to 5/6 depending on dealer - they use a guideline on the shoe.

Heat - generally not very aggressive, but they care. If they suspect a card counter, they will back off or bar from play, but have not seen this happen.

Other comments - dealers here are VERY SLOW - slow to deal, and slow to pay out. Lots of confirmations for payouts as well. Some dealers are better than others, but generally most are slow. Any buy-in or cash out above $2,500 requires secondary confirmation from Casino Manager (also annoying) including at the cage, they require ID for any amount above $2,000 (or $2,500 I can't remember). These dealers are also much more chatty than the Lac-Leamy dealers, so this can reduce hands per hour - can sometimes be annoying. Pen can be good at times - but depends on the dealer. Pit Bosses also keep track of chips very carefully. You can wong-in, but they back off observers quite quickly - so you will need to play all.

Actually I went to Mont Tremblant - conditions are the same as Lac-Leamy. 8D DAS NS H17, $25-100 with approx 6/8 pen. Minimal heat, but they will watch if you are betting heavy - there's nothing else for the Pit Boss to do! (Very super small casino).
