What are your guys' thoughts on avoiding checks play calls? Based on my bankroll and the simulations I've run, $100 is a good max bet for me. I would like to be able to spread from 1x$10 to 1x$100. At the casinos I go to checks play is called out for all bets $100 or more. For longevity sake should I try to stay under $100 for my max bet? If so, how much under? I would think that going to $95 would make it more obvious what I was doing and cause more heat. Should I just ignore the checks play and spread like I want to? Thanks for any tips!

Go nuts. Most of the time they completely ignore it. Also keep in mind checks play call isn't really meant to alert the pit crew of possible counters, its primarily to notify of a big better (comps) or to make sure crew pays more attention in case of cheating or mispay.

Having said that there are ways to avoid it I think, I have sat there raising well above 100 w/o a checks play call, while someone else sitting at the table gets a checks play call.

"Checks play" is generic

I once thought there was an alarm being sounded because I had sextupled my bet. Nope: the pit had just changed the rules on what betting threshold gets "checks play".

I think you'll stick out far more for betting $95 than betting $100. Since $95 bets slow down the dealer pay-outs, you'll also be hurting your earnings rate.

Top bet 2 hands $75 each. This makes your spread effectively bigger with the same risk profile and a lower "max bet". You just need to have a little more money ready to be used when you play.

At most places I play, I can't switch from one to two spots in the middle of the round. I could play both spots but that requires twice the min. I know zengrifter recommended that approach but I haven't seen much math behind it...

Hey zen,
Specifically I meant your strategy of playing 2 hands through the negative portion of a shoe in order to eat the bad cards up faster...my sim software sucks and I've never been able to test what you said in your interview like I would like.

If $100 is your rare top bet, probably not worth the attention.
Run 2 sims
Top bet $100
Top bet $75, occasional $80 or $90.
Do you think the attention of checks play is worth the EV?
With a larger bank the EV may be worth it.

Two hands; double min., off the top is tough. If the casino is crowded better you play 2 spots then lose one to a civilian.

If you just want to play two spots if it gets a - TC probably best to drop to one spot. Vary when you do this for camo.

With the exception of a few places (like EC), "Checks play" calls are usually ignored. However, use only greens and reds. At a low minimum table, a call of "Black in action" will turn heads.

2x75 is generally not the best idea.

Just shove a stack of red chips, the dealer will have no idea ho much it is at a glance, they will know roughly, but not if its over or under a hundred usually so they dont call it.

It also looks ploppi-ish...~~Yeah boi, press it baby~~ cap on three more red if you win.down one chip if you lose, and insiist on being payed in more red chips because that looks ploppi-ish but also because they will actually pay it faster that way instead of breakig it down and paying green.
