Deck Penetration & Break Time

Well I learned something last night. Was being delt to by a relief dealer, we came to the end of the shoe and after collecting, paying and scooping the cards he almost started to deal again. He said "yeah you gotta watch me on that...i usually cut much deeper." Then he said "that if the dealer on shift is shuffling and about to go on break they cut way shallow so the relief dealer will have to shuffel. We all do it". Then he said "I like to cut deep cause the shoe lasts longer."

On a side note - At a different table, I'm guessing my count was way off last night too because a dealer kept drawing to 20 & 21's on a +3 to +5 TC. Was very aggrivated!!

Unless the count is monster high with few cards remaining, all it really means is there are a few extra big cards remaining. Unforetunately it always seems there are enough smaller cards for the dealer to 'make' their hand. :(

The games dealers play with each other can be frustrating, but as you pointed out, you can take advantage of some. I hate it when the dealer is about to be relieved and instead of dealer one or two more hands while the relief checks into the pit ect, the dealer will organize or mostly pretend to organize their chip tray. I know the casino may have 'house-cleaning' procedures, but usually it is a blatent attempt at stalling. Frustrating for those of us trying to max hands per hour. :(

I have been told by dealers that they offer shallow cuts because they like
shuffling; as it offers them a break from dealing.

Also I have seen many relief dealers offer poor penetration, because they
don't give a rat's ass about what is taking place at the table.

If you find a deeply penetrating shoe dealer, keep with them as long as you can.
Mr. howtobeatthecasino,

I am confused by your message. Okay, I found such a dealer and who did you mean that I should follow "them"? His family?

Read what Ian Andersen has to say about the importance of pen in Burning The Tables in Las Vegas. He makes it very very clear how important good pen is. The book is excellent and even fun to read, however, if all he wrote were those pages making clear the importance of pen the book would be worth ten times its' price.:joker:
