The use of a cut card in single deck is not good for the player; in fact, it is so unethical that to my knowledge, only one casino in Nevada that offers single deck uses it -- the Four Queens in downtown Las Vegas, a couple of blocks from the dump in which you've been playing. Avoid the Four Queens garbage single deck game.
With so little single deck left in the world, unless you plan to essentially limit your play to Reno and Wendover, you are better off learning to play shoes right from the start of your playing career. But if you insist on learning single deck in the meantime, you need to become familiar with SINGLE DECK GAME SELECTION

EC is infamous for being very sweaty. If you're a new counter you will want to play at other places that won't give you much scrutiny. I have heard stories of non counters getting backed off from EC for raising their bets by even a modest amount.
No, Don, it was not addressed to you. Lately pros on the forum seem to disparage Law Vegas because it no longer is what it was. They seem to discourage folks from coming to Las Vegas. I still believe it's easiest and best place for AP's. There are many casinos that have just as good penetration as anywhere else, the rules are still decent and heat varies.
Just today, I played at the sweaty spaniard, single deck, both $5 and $25 minimum for an hour, walked away up $250 spreading 1-5 with anact.
For those red chip and low green chip players, it's still a great place.

The term is called preferential shuffling, and many players including myself consider it outright cheating. The smart play is to get up and move on, otherwise it might lead to further trouble. Many of the dealers that do use a preferential shuffle will often re-shuffle when they see a bet raise, without knowing anything else. A easy way to find out is to raise your bet when the TC has fallen, where you would like to have a shuffle up, if the dealer shuffles up you could outplay the stupid cheat, to your own advantage. However, I do not recommend you try this move because you and the stupid dumb ass could be accused and charged with collusion, especially if there was any tipping done. Also there are a few desperate dealers out there who are willing to take big chances with a player, without a word being said, turning into a very real collusion situation quickly.Badbeat said:

It's collusion in my mind. There is also a zero chance of anything coming of it. You know how some of us say we play to a zero RoR, when it isn't really zero, but 0.00-something? Well that's the zero chance of anything coming of it. 
But it is not even about risk of getting caught for me. I don't like winning by anything even remotely 'shady'. Every time we have a tipping thread, someone will state they only tip if they "get something for it". Usually meaning better penetration. I don't want to tip for better penetration. If the dealer is doing something different because I am tipping, whether something illegal like intentional mis-pays, or just something just different that casino procedure, I don't want it. I want to win by the exact rules and procedure the casino has set. I really enjoy that.
It does piss me off when casinos do something like preferential shuffling that is clearly by definition illegal, but somehow allowed by Gaming commission. But as the saying goes, "two wrongs don't make a right". I think the casino industry is basically immoral by it's predatory nature. Things like over serving customers alcohol, and cashing paychecks, so working people lose their money before they ever make it home. Sleazy! I will not allow them to drag me to their level by doing something I consider wrong just to win a buck.

What if you tip to try to get the dealer to do something that isn’t breaking procedure?
Here’s an example that I personally experienced: I was playing at a casino last year where almost all the dealers were cutting 70% to 75% on DD. Some were cutting even better than that.
I start playing at a table where the dealer is cutting maybe .9 or close to center cut. But his relief dealer was cutting .3. Big difference! So I think I made a couple comments about how the shuffle didn’t last as long as I would like and I placed a couple bets for him. He didn’t get the hint. Then on a different shuffle, I think I said “I’ve been winning really good with __(insert relief dealer name)__, so let’s cut it like her. Thin to win.” I’ve heard ploppies say this before lol. I put out a couple of red chip bets for him. He said “ok,” then proceeded to cut the same. So I gave up on him and just moved. I only stayed as long as I did because his tables was heads up play.
Anyway, all of the other dealers were cutting pretty good except for a few, so I was just hoping to persuade him to follow procedure like his coworkers.

Certainly nothing illegal about what you describe. I would even say nothing "wrong" with it, as per my own guidelines. BUT, it's not the way I operate. I scout dealer that I want to play with (penetration). If something changes and the penetration changes, I move on. There are plenty more opportunities. I just have no interest in 'training' the dealer. The problem for me with the tipping for better penetration is not even necessarily THAT level but what comes next. Once you become one of the frequent tippers, the relationship changes. The dealer starts wanting you to win, to do well, because that means more tips. Some dealers will take that 'hoping' you win a little further. All of the sudden there is a mispay, or your 18 pushes against the dealer 19. Once the dealer decides it is better for him/her (but mostly him) if you are winning, it really is not that far down that slippery slope.
I am not judging any player that does anything, that I chose not to do....well up until actual cheating or collusion. I just have the way I like to win. The house sets the rules and conditions and I come in and play by them and win. That makes me feel good.
