Double for less in Spanish 21?

Is doubling for less allowed in Spanish 21 (w/ redoubling)? One of the strategies is to redouble if 12 vs. 7 or 8 which proves to be more advantageous than stay or rescue (after a double) by allowing you an extra card when the "hit" option is no longer available... So... Say I have an 11 vs 8 on a $25 bet, and I double only to get an A, can I double again if I only put $1 out?

Where I play SP21 it is always allowed. The proper way to handle a rescue is to give the player back what he doubled with, but sometimes you can catch a dealer screwing it up, to great advantage.

What I think the OP is getting at is redoubling on a big bet for a nickel just to be able to take another card, rather than rescue. Sounds nice if you can get it.

Hmm... So maybe if I'm not too greedy I can get away with redoubling for the initial bet against a sleepy dealer or something. Cool! It seems that the more I learn about this variation, the more I realize that I'm missing out. It seems that one of the biggest advantages to SP21 is that hardly anyone knows how to play it! (Sadly, this includes myself for the time being).

Tried it last night... 0 for 1 :cry:
Had a good +Var night though. Only problem was the SP21 tables were alot more popular than I thought... Ended up mostly playing blackjack.

It is always allowed in Atlantic City -- but in A.C. there is no ReDouble.
The casinos offering the H17 Re-Double game would be foolish to allow it.
But it cannot hurt to try.

I imagine that your chances of betting less than the table minimum is about zero.
It is not worth re-doubling for almost the full amount, but I suspect that if you try
re-doubling "for less" via 1/2 of the full amount, you will maximize your chances of success.

Of course, this is a rare situation -- to understate the case !
