Expanation of rule of six please

I just started reading Barfarkel's book and I just want to make sure I understand the rule of six. Would 3 players getting three hands at a single decker before the shuffle be the rule of six? How about two players getting four hands? Four players getting two hands?

More importantly, is the general goal for good penetration in single deck to get better than rule of six penetration? From what I'm reading it sounds like rule of six is only so-so penetration. Is this correct? Would rule of six be about 50% pen? I want to be able to recognize a good game when I see one.

Thanks your responses.

Yes - #players + #rounds = X, Rule Of. Ro6 is considered the minimally playable 1D pene. zg

The more penetration you get in a game the better chance that your true count will get you the cards you need. Always remember, that just becuause the count is in your favor (ex. +8) those 8 extra tens can be behind the CUT card.

That happened to me last night on a 6-deck shoe with only 1 deck cut off (around 80% pen.) The count was at +7 and it seemed as though there were as many or more low cards falling than high, right up to the cut card. The shoe ended with a +11 (Using KO).
