Have a question about betting

This is my first post here. I have been lurking about a week before deciding to join up. I am from MI and I have read here besides MGM there isn't much good BJ here. Boy I wish I knew more about rules and BS before I stepped to some of those sh*t tables. Although, even I knew then that 6:5 was just terrible.

I'm going to Vegas in less than a week, I have read some stuff here and elsewhere about some of the better tables still left (lots downtown) (3:2, 1D, S17 hit, $5 min. another 3:2, 2D, S17 hit, DAS, $3 min). Not perfect but not bad either. My BS is close to perfect, where I wouldn't need to look at a BS card, but I'm always practicing.
I also am practicing the hi/lo count as well and getting better. I don't wanna go any farther than that now.

When I am practicing with one deck, I notice my count is rarely above +2 or +3 and below -2 and -3. I read to bet higher when its positive, but I usually hear do that when its more like +4 or +5 which I never get with a 1 deck. Is the +4 or +5 only for multi deck games? If so, whats a decent number to get where I can up my bet on a 1 deck?
Also, is it better to flat bet at the start and wait till a certain point later to raise the bet no matter what the count is? For instance say there is 2 people at the table and a deal and its the first deal and a lot of low cards come out and the counts like +4, is it too early to up my bet at the start even with a higher count, or should I wait till I get higher numbers later in the deck (or shoe)?

I'm asking about 1 deck, because I read 1 place with decent rules still doing 1 deck another with 2, so I'm interested in 2 or more decks as well.

I notice my lose/win ratio is close to 50/50 most of the time. Like if I bet flat the whole time, most of the time I either lose very little, stay around the same, or win just above what I originally had, so I gotta get better with betting in order to do better.

TIA

If im not mistaken, when the deck is half way through and you count with hi-lo, and lets say the count is +3... then you would divide it by .5 which means you multiply by 2 so your true count is +6.

So the deck should go pretty high really.
