Insurance and MP coupons.

I don't think I've ever encountered it,but what are the casino rules for this?
Say you have $25 and a MP out, dealer shows an Ace.Is insurance $12.50 or $25?What do you get if he has BJ? And what happens to the MP coupon?
I've got a bunch of MPs for this upcoming trip, and would like to be prepared.
I'm thinking that if $12.50 covers your bet,and the MP survives to the next hand, its worth taking, even for a non-counter.
I don't think I've ever seen this point covered in a book.

Seems to me that you could just consider your matchplay like a normal cash bet. You would only insure it if the count warranted it. That is assuming it is a 1-1 matchplay. If the matchplay pays more than 1-1, than it is a different story, but you didnt specify that is was more than 1-1 so that's what I will assume it is for.

Here is my thinking. I could be wrong, but here it is.
You have a $25 bet and a $25 MP out.If you win,you get $50,plus you keep your $25.If you lose, you are out $25,plus the MP.
But if the dealer has BJ,and you insure it,if it only cost $12.50,you are getting almost 4-1 on the bet,as you'll keep both the original bet,and the MP.
Insurance normally pays 2-1,and is a positive bet at +3 KO,if you are getting almost 4-1 on the bet,the count has to be VERY negative before its not worth taking.
Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

possibly differant joints have different policy with regard to match play. the casino's that i've used them in work like this. you can insure the regular chip that you matched with but not the match play chip or coupon.
for surrender you get half your regular chips returned but in this case i've seen it where if you surrender they take the match play coupon or chip and i've seen it where they let the match play 'ride' until the next round but you have to match it again with a regular chip.

Are you saying that if you insure your regular bet and win, they still take the MP coupon away? I'm unclear on what you are trying to say.

yes at least thats what happens in my local joint. if you insure and the dealer has blackjack they take the coupon but pay you for your insurance bet that you won. at my local casino you can't put up insurance for the match play coupon only the chips you matched the coupon with. perhaps other casino's have different policies. the dealer and even the pit seem confused on the issue themselves
if the dealer does not have blackjack the coupon and your matching bet stay in play and the hand continues.
