Insurance

Hi, i'm pretty new to counting (only actually played at a casino once) but have been practicing the ubz ii count for about month. Basically, I can count while talking now fairly well but am still waiting on a book coming for the indices.

I'm moving at the end of the summer, and thus only intend to hit the casino near me once or twice...so my question is on how to play insurance ideally as I will be using no cover (insurance seems like an especially lucrative play, though i could be wrong). The games at my casino are S17, dd 8-11, no dd after split, 6 deck and 2 deck face down.

Also, other techniques i've seen such as steering/shuffle tracking seem out of my league as my casino shuffles one deck with a machine while anohter is being used. Any other advice one thinks is necessary for a new counter would also be appreciated,.

I watched a movie today by Semyon Dukach (one of the original members of the MIT team), and his advice was to only buy insurance with a true count of +3 or more. This may vary depending on your specific game (others can help you get a more accurate determination depending on your specific system and game), but I think that if you were to only buy at TC = +3 or more then you'd end up in good shape.
