Most ridiculous dealer error

I was playing some Spanish 21 recently and saw THE most ridiculous dealer error I've ever seen - I almost don't think it can be beaten.

I was playing two spots and got a 17 and a stiff against a dealer ace. I hit the stiff and bust. As she was taking the chips and cards away I said "Surrender" (meaning for the 17 that I hadn't played yet) and she gave me half the money back from the hand I'd just bust!!!! The bet money was in her hand already and literally inches from the tray!!

Even more ridiculous, there was a floor person there who said: "What are you doing?", the dealer said: "Oh, he surrender", and the floor said: "Oh, ok"

!!!!

Has anyone seen anything even remotely that ridiculous before?

Yes. You might want to announce Surrender before dealer checks hole card. Most will tell you they have to check first. Some dealers go for it, especially in casinos where there is no LS in BJ, as dealers aren't very familiar with it.


Here's a good one that happened to me recently:
I played a 1 unit bet with a match play coupon and got a BJ. Dealer paid me 1.5U. I told her that's not right because of the coupon. She called the PC over who agreed with her. I said, "the match play doubles my bet, so I should get 3 times by base bet." PC thinks for a minute then agreed with me. Dealer had already pushed out 1.5U and says to PC, "so I should pay him another 3 units?" He said yes and I got paid 4.5 units for my BJ.

Oh yeah, I've tried that one. Never gotten that to work yet. I have had success surrendering some 3 card 16s and 17s before. Some of the dealers think you can do anything at any time in Sp21...

During the bash, I had a pretty funny dealer error while playing double deck. There were two of us bashers playing and a couple of others watching. We had bigger bets out, the count fell, and we dropped our bets. Of course, with small bets out on the next hand, the other basher to my right gets a BJ and flips it up. I pick up KK, flip it up, and complain about how we get the good hands with the small bets out, etc. Keep in mind that I don't usually play pitch. After I realized what I had done, I figured well the dealer with tell me to tuck my cards, etc. Nope, 3:2 :laugh: This was the smallest dealer error of the trip by dollar amount, but it was still pretty funny. :grin:

Saw it with my own two eyes... Funny thing was you started mumbling something until you saw him reaching for chips to pay you :laugh::laugh:

As he was scooping his bet, I said "Wait a minute, that's not right";whereupon he turned around & scowled at me "Mind your own f***ing business!". So I DID! :laugh: :laugh:

I like to mind my own business when playing, you never get in trouble that way. I also generally never give advice even when asked.

Personally, I hate to see people get cheated, especially by the likes of a casino dealer. Sucker just did impulsively what came natural. These things fall into the category of small potatoes. So it doesn't matter a whole lot one way or the other, and even Sucker did not pursue it further.

But if it were something of greater magnitude, like someone getting mugged, it's a different story. You reap what you sow.

Something almost like this happened to me at Spanish too. I pulled 22 and the dealer went to pay me as if I had 21. The floor was standing right there watching, and told the dealer not to pay me and take my bet instead because I busted. While the dealer was hovering her hand over my chips to take everything back, some ploppy asked some question that distracted both the dealer and the floorperson. When they had finished answering, the dealer took back neither my payout nor my original bet (while the floor was still watching), and I won the hand.

I always point it out if other players get short paid. Fostering good will from your tablemates can be a valuable thing.

As do I. Althought I don't like added attention either, I would rather get an error corrected. However, I draw the line with an error in a player's favor, then mum's the word.

Actually, CP is right - it's NOT a good idea to draw attention to yourself. Had it been anywhere other than Atlantic City, I probably WOULD have kept my mouth shut.

Maybe you need to work harder at putting down that natural tendency you have to do the right thing! I mean, really, how much attention does something like that draw. Any ploppy might do the same thing, and in fact, listening to some of the responses here, a ploppy is more likely to do the right thing. So now you just might be identified as a ploppy. I think this idea is overblown. If AP entails watching your fellow players get cheated without raising an objection, then I'm turning in my AP badge and gun. But like I said, this was small potatoes. To make a big fuss is one thing, but to mention a dealer mistake when you see it is no big deal IMO. If doing what Sucker did were to attract heat, then you're playing in the sweatiest sweatbox in the country and there's no use trying to play there to begin with. Give me a break!

The dealer was obviously new and she had made a few payout errors already (I only seemed to notice when they were not in my favor). But the best one was when the guy sitting next to me busted. She took his cards and his bet and proceeded to me. The guy then put out his bet for the next round while I was playing my hand and the dealer was resolving hers. She busted. She paid me then proceeded to pay the guy on the bet he'd just put out. And he DIDN'T EVEN HAVE CARDS on the table! :laugh:

Happened last night at Mohegan Sun, WB, PA. Five players at the table, I'm playing two spots, dealer deals everyone at the table and forgets to deal herself. I'm dealt 13 on one hand and 14 on the other. PC is called and instructs the dealer to take two cards out of the shoe face up, and then it's the players' option to continue to play the hand or not. Of course, she pulls a 20 and proceeds to ask me if I want a card. "How about if I double on both of these lovely hands?" :laugh:

Anyway, I was dealt a 7,7 v 5 and I split them. Dealer screamed out "splitting sevens." I almost sprayed my beverage on the table with that one :laugh:

Don't think I'll go back for another 6 months...

I had this happen to me more than a couple times. As a result, I'm trained to put out my next bet immediately after I bust and dealer takes my chips :eyepatch:
