Pits, Shifts and in between.

Here is one for the Vegas gang.

There is a lot of talk and techniques about watching pit bosses, avoiding certain shifts, giving pit bosses a wide berth etc, which leads me to some questions?

I know the shift times at my local casino, What are the shift times in Vegas, is every property close to the same? do the vary wildly?

For example my local has:
12noon-8pm - Day Shift.
8pm-4am - Night Shift.
4am-12noon - Swing shift.

(i rarely do anything in the swing shift particularly from 7am onwards, as anyone thats there at 7am is there for a heavy reason, not some ploppy on holidays, after all who sets their alarm to go gample?)

Next question relates to Pit Bosses themselves.
The pit bosses at my local haunt actually move pits during their shift (once every 2.5 hours ish approx) which makes it hard to build rapport with them, but on the flip makes it good if i am getting some heat etc.

Hows it work in Vegas? I mean lets say i drop a sportsbook bet in for the bosses, whats to say they dont up and leave again in 20 minutes off to another pit etc?

Also while im at it whats the dealer change ratio on average in Vegas?

Was in downtown Vegas recently, and most of the stores had the following schedule:

10 AM-6 PM: day
6 PM-2 AM: swing
2 AM- 10 AM: grave

Dealers changed/rotated no more frequently than every 20 minutes.

When hitting a different casino each day early in the morning, there are many reasons you can use to justify being up at that hour, which also conveniently create a time limit on your play:

1. "The only tee time I could get was at 8 AM, can you believe it?" Then add something about needing to be up early to stretch, etc.

2. "I can't believe my stupid friends wanted to go to the Hoover Dam this early."

3. "My flight is leaving in a couple hours and I need to get back to even before I leave." If you're playing so much that you run through your rotation and happen to revisit the same casino at that ungodly hour a few days later, you can always say something about sticking around a couple extra days to get back to even!

4. "This is the best time to pick up drunk chicks just getting out of the club. Ever hear of 'low hanging fruit'?" :laugh: . . . wait, what?!

Do you really need a justification for gambling in the wee hours? Just dress down, ruffle your hair, and splash a little whisky on yourself, and you're one of the millions of gambling addicts that keep Vegas in business.

Careful, very careful, the cost of the tipping itself may outweigh any potential improvement to your comp rating.

It's generally difficult/unethical/impossible to directly tip supervisors. At a place like Wynn they get a cut of the dealers' tokes, but that's it.

Max Rubin has written that little gifts can still work though. No personal experience with that, i'm not sure what level you need to be betting at for that to work out.

It also seems like it would be hard to get enough exposure to ONE supervisor enough for this to matter. If you've got the same superisor for 16 hours in a week... you probably aren't doing a good job of staying under the radar.

Are you playing with or without a card.

If you are playing with a card, they will see when you clocked out.

If you are playing without a card, are you going to vary your look?

Many casinos put in a description (white male, red jacket, baseball cap) etc. into the pit computer whether or not you are using a card or not using a card.
