Possibilities of using "legitimate cover".

It was Friday last week and of all the odd things that could happen received a phone call from my Protestant priest. He was asking me if I was to going to join the church group to go out to the Sacramento area on a fun gambling trip. Sounded like he needed help filling out the bus...

That's MY kind of priest lemme tell ya.

This parish is a largely Filipino congregation. Gambling is a cultural tradition for them. Like bingo is to Catholics. I don't think there are any seriously compulsive gamblers in the flock. Just the quarter and nickel slot types mostly.

Well I turned down the gambling junket invite for two reasons. Not least of which was that my beloved 12 year old dog had died the Fourth of July. Just dropped dead. Sad, i didn't feel much like going out for a while. And the other reason was that my bank roll is a bit low. Both perfectly good reasons.

However as the weekend went on it dawned on me: A church group could be the perfect cover for team play!

I've never been on a team nor had the desire but now I'm starting to think otherwise. Some real possibilities here. With only minimal training I could get the crew to request and receive a whole table exclusive to ourselves. Next instruct everyone to flat bet the minimum most the time. And then have the parish priest or some other church elder ramp up his bets on my wink.

Just keep an eye on whatever convention or event is in town and you've got the perfect fake persona. Participant or exhibitor or sporting fan......they all are easy enough to bull$h!t your way thru. I've kinda always wanted to go out to Vegas when the PBR rodeo finals are in town. A bunch of people all wearing one thing..........cowboy hats!

So while there may not be anything wrong with a priest gambling, it is a bit unusual in the fact that it isn't something you see everyday, and in that respect may drawl more attention than provide cover. Especially if the preist is the 'big bettor'. By my way of thinking anything out of the ordinary is bad, as I try to blend in.

As for Jack Black's "gay cover". You might be surprised. I have used this tactic effectively a many of times. It would look extra bad if a casino were to throw out a feminine 'gay acting' player. Right or wrong, that's the politically correct climate we live in, and I beleive it will buy you a little extra slack. There is a pretty well known pro, who recently came out with a book, that I have spoken to about just this topic. He used 'the gay act' in the past and also believes it to buy cover. Since, our discussion was private, I won't go any further than that. If he wants to chime in, he can. lol

Axelrad talked a fair bit about this cover in his book. It's a decent idea, since it's the only protected group a young white guy could viably pretend to imitate. It's harder to paint your skin..

I confess, I have declared such a thing about myself twice, once to protect another counter in LV who had been heard talking to me in code and the dealer was curious, and once to rid myself of a vexing female ploppy.

The second backfired badly; turned out all her male friends were that way, and now instead of wanting to check out my room she wanted me to take her dancing and shopping. :vomit:

I know priests who gamble, but if you do so without an advantage, I think confession might be in order, especially if you lose a substantial amount. :laugh:

Folks, one time when Monkey and I were sharing a table, there was a female PC doing a little too much lingering. He invited her up to his room after her shift. That got her away from our table very quickly!

Oh yeah, I remember that, she was kind of on the edge there for a moment!

Good thing I wasn't winning that night, nothing brings girls over like a big stack of black and purple. I'm absolutely serious about that.

Last incident I had like that was a fall-down drunk girl who had just puked in her hair in the ladies room, wanting to make out at the table.

First thing that comes to mind are loud mouths who would say something at the table like;

"Hey Irish how's that card counting going?".

That said i may yet start a blackjack group within the church and see if there are any takers. If they show enthusiasm then they may progress to something helpful.

My guess is that most church gamblers just want to relax and have a good time. Blackjack being more work than they might want to get into on a weekend splurge..

This is exactly what myself and Jack_Black were referring to. Recently we were in a situation where we met up with some other members of this site that may have attracted a little too much attention. At first we were concerned surveillance would have pegged us also, as the guys in question had come to our room at one point to talk and have a few drinks. It was for the very purpose johndoe mentioned that I suggested we claim to be gay if anyone questioned how we all know each other. What would the casino possibly say to that?


As for those comments being deleted, let me say I am very disapointed in whichever moderator made that call. In no way was post(s) in question demeaning or slanderous. If that was censored so should all references to handicapped people, ect...... C'mon people. There has been MUCH worse that has been let slide in the past.......
