Hi, I am a newbie to card counting.
I am a professional internet poker player, I am an Australian [though not currently residing there]. I hit up Vegas once or twice a year, and during breaks from poker, I play green chip BJ.
I use a hi-lo count [+I18], spreading and hit/run strategies. being actually a tourist, being asian, and knowing how to speak "chinglish" means i've never had any undue attention that i am aware of. So far I have been moderately successful but i have a lot to learn.
I have read pretty much every post in the counting forums and I have some questions that I would be grateful if answers were offered [or pm them to me]
I went to Reno a few months back, and KILLED them. Love those single deck games FtW!
1. It's been said on this board that Hi-Lo is not a good system for a 1 deck game. My understanding is this is because of the many playing decision adjustments that need to be made for most profitable play, and Hi-Lo being poor on PE. Is this the reason? And what IS a good counting strategy and indexing system for a typical D9-11 1 deck game?
2. I have been thinking of ways to improve my play. Based on my experience and willingness to put time into what is basically a secondary game for me, I would say I can perfect a level 1 + 1-2 side counts, or a level 2 system [with indexes].
The available comparisons of systems [under criteria which have zen and omega as generally superior to hi-lo] don't usually include analysis of how side counts can affect BC/PE/IC.
So with this is mind, are there any calculations done on the relative usefulness of side-count systems?
What i'm getting at is: how does Hi-Opt 1 + Ace side count, compare to other systems on a methodology like http://www.qfit.com/card-counting.htm ?
3. I have been thinking up a system that improves on hi-lo, which is basically a hi-opt 1 + side count.
Count "A"
3456 = +1, Ten = -1
Count "B"
2 = +1, Ace = -1
for betting decisions, I aggregate count A and count B
for playing decisions like doubling 9, doubling 10, splitting 10, then I aggregate count A and B [since getting an A is MUCH better than a 2 in these situations]
for playing decisions like hitting/standing 12, 15, 16, I use only count A
for insurance, I use only count A
the advantage compared to hi-opt 1 + Ace side count for me is:
I personally find it easier to keep 2 counts than to know there are 5 aces out, and have to estimate how much deck has been dealt to determine how "ace rich" the deck is, and then know how much to adjust for betting units.
In effect, I'm using the 2s to "proxy" for this calculation.
Examples:
count A is +2 count B is +2 [true]
I would:
double 9 vs 7 [as I aggregate the two counts] so this agrees with Hi Lo, but
hit 15 vs 10 [as I only consider the count to be +2 for this play, which is under the threshhold for standing]
can someone give me a critique of my system and or any improvements? obviously i will have to do some thinking about when to apply which count as it's only in the brainstorming stage.
nice to meet the community. i have lurked for a while
