About 10 days ago, I was involved in a chat session with 10+ users (CP, Thunder, and I forget who else), including 2 mods (Sonny and ICNT).

Along came a newbie who signed in with a userid that was an ethnic slur, to which I took offense. I made my displeasure known in the chat session, and only after about 45 minutes was the a-hole booted. In the process I was banned from chat as well. I PMed Sonny and he said he would have Ken reinstate me. It's been over a week and I sent another reminder email to Ken and Sonny 2 days ago. So far, no response.

I presume Sonny, ICNT and/or Ken will enjoy telling the story at their next KKK meeting. In the meantime, I will take a self-imposed vacation from this forum. If anyone wants to contact me, you can email me at my userid at gmail dot com.

You took offense to an ethnic slur and then engage in hate speech yourself? How can you not realize you have a double standard?

I understand your anger and where it stems from. The poster set up his game well in advance and we all know who he was after the fact,,soon after.

I am sorry I did not pick up on it right away but the term he used is a French term and I thought of that not the other. It all happened so fast. I was very disturbed also when I realized what really was happening.

The guy who posted the offensive term is a major dissapointment.

FWIW I will also speak to Ken, ICNT about why you were not reinstated.

21Forme, i dont beleive i was there at the chat session you talk about (or at least i was not in front of the computer)so I am not sure what went down, but in case you havent noticed, Ken is very busy these days with business and personal matters and he hardly spend anytime on the forums so my guess is that he has not gotten your request yet. Please note that while Sonny and I can ban people from chat rooms, neither of us can reinstate a user since it is a separate software from the forums and only Ken has the ability to do that.

For that matter, you replying to an unfortunate racial issue with racial comments in public does hardly make things better.
I hope you reconsider your decision as i am sure Ken will reinstate you as soon as he gets the notice.

I’m sorry to hear about your frustration. If I remember correctly, ICNT had left the chat just before this started so I take full responsibility.

In my defense, I did not realize that you were the one posting as wetback8721 when I banned you. I simply banned both new members who were using racial slurs. I also apologize that I didn’t reply to your PM over the weekend. I was away from home playing blackjack. As I said when I replied to your original PM last week, I am doing everything I can to get you reinstated as soon as possible. Hopefully everything will be fixed by the time you are ready to return from your break. I give you my solemn promise that I will not attend any of the upcoming klan meetings until this mistake has been fixed.

A few years ago, I owned a comic and baseball card store called Quest End. After I got really into the nitelife scene, I sold it to my best customer, who renamed it Kard and Komics Karnival. It wasn't until he tried to register (Dead link: http://www.KKK.com) that he realised his mistake.

"Wetback" is not and never has been a racial slur. It applies only to illegal aliens, who can be of any race. The implication is that the illegal alien in question swam here.

After WWII there was a US government program called Operation Wetback which identified and deported illegal aliens, which was a rousing success and got rid of over a million of them.

but today, it's use is intended as such.

Who cares what foreigners believe about an American word? The word is never used to refer to Americans of Mexican ancestry. There are people who believe that 'Yid' is an insult and that 'niggardly' is one too. Many people believe AP's are cheats. We can go along with the ignorance of others, or we can use our brains.

Besides I wouldn't venture to guess what other people believe. A few decades ago the wonderful Speedy Gonzalez cartoons were taken off the air because they were deemed offensive to Mexicans. Only problem is this decision was made by Anglophones who never bothered to find out that Mexicans love Speedy Gonzalez. Afterwards the only place you could see the cartoons was on Spanish language TV.

I don't think Mexican-Americans enjoy wetbacks trashing their communities any more than I do.

:laugh: I think some of these slurs are more prevalent in certain geographical locations. I had never heard the one that caused all the commotion in the chat. I had to ask what it meant.

The only time I've ever been offended by a slur aimed at me was by an Asian guy in Canada that said to me "Yankee go home". (Us Rebels don't like being called Yanks!") :laugh: (I was fairly young) It wasn't till years later that I realized he was equating Yankee with American! :laugh:

I guess it depends on your perspective and the intent of the slur when deciding how much it bothers you.
