Optimal rules for blackjack as found in boomtown are double down on any two cards blackjack pays 3 to 2 no double after a split no draw to split aces. House edge .16% notice that optimal rules today where typical rules 40 or 50 years ago. Optimal rules back than actually gave the player an advantage over the house when basic stragedy was followed!!! Although one mistake would shift the odds back into the houses favor.
The next best game for the player is craps on the odds bet, this is one of the few bets in the house that the house has no advantage what so ever.

But you have to realize that 50 years go there was no super computer to create those basic strategy charts, so it was kind of hard to emulate over a billion games on a piece of paper =_=Cardcounter said:
