Wheeling Island table games dead?

I saw gamblers in this casino are almost nonexistent in my recent two trips. They close most table games during weekdays. I only saw four Blackjack tables on the main floor. Because the table minimal is now $15, the main stream ploppies said they can't afford playing BJ. Also ploppies found out there are no longer Pai Gow games on weekdays. :whip: Not long ago, I heard the rumor that Wheeling Island will become slot machine only casino. Even it is not true, it is very close to it.

On the other hand, Mountaineer Casino has never been this busy. I saw most tables are full in my recent trip . Ploppies or not, people do know S17 is good for them and H17 is not. The two casinos are almost identical except Mountaineer is S17 while Wheeling Island changed to H17 about one year ago to increase profits. Profits surge is short term lived. Now they lost most customers.

You know I personally never encountered a ploppy who complained about H17 - they constantly complain about everything else, e.g., machine shuffled games, poor pen/too much shuffling, high limits, not being able to get a seat etc.,

I think its more that you have bad management, that looks to make short term gains (like H17, high limits) and completely not caring about the long term (gotta make those #'s for this quarter), and ploppies do eventually get turned off by all the nickel and diming such management makes.

If I was a shareholder Wheeling Island, I would want the management summarily fired and executed.

In the afternoon, I was the only one playing Blackjack. The other three tables are all empty! The dealer at my table did his best job to recruit customers to his table. When someone he knew passed by, he called him or her by name and asked the regular to play. No one sat down. Some are quite honest to her and said they can't afford playing $15 table. Not long ago, the joint had some $5 tables and most tables on main floor were $10 minimal. But they should know they were in trouble because they can't fill up the $5 table. I think it is related to the fact that they are the only casino hit H17 in the area.

Wheeling Island is part of a big casino chain. Maybe the management don't care.

Ploppy wisdom.

Ploppies might not know the difference between H17 and S17. They know lucky casinos and unlucky casinos. Funny how the list of unlucky casinos is the same as the list of H17 casinos. I guess it takes them a couple months to figure out their lucky casino is now unlucky.:grin:

You're right. I try to educate them when I hear them say that the dealer hitting soft 17 is working to their advantage. "It can, but usually doesn't," I tell them, "The odds favor the house in the long run. It's the sign of a greedy casino, trying to nickel and dime you at every turn." Help spread hatred for casinos, that's my motto. :laugh: But seriously, so many people have some stupid notion that casino games are fair. :cry: It's sad.

They would care if anyone in the management chain had even a clue. As it is, they probably got bonuses and rewards for killing their games. Forgive then, Godfather, they know not what they do. [I hope it's not sacrilegious to paraphrase the Bible.] But these yoyo's can't spell brains, let alone have them. :cool2:

H17 vs S17 adds hat, 0.2% to house edge? I doubt the typical ploppy betting $5 would actually notice a difference in two months of play.

He might even do better, being the typical ploppy plays a strategy that would be better for H17 than S17 anyway. All that standing on 12 vs. 2 and 3, doubling 11 vs. A.

I think PA is really killing them. There is only so much money to go around. I can remember when WV legalized table games back in 07, you couldn't find a seat. Even the CSM tables were full. Once they kill the locals, there is nobody left to play.

Last I checked their DD was alive and well but every time we visited nary a seat was open. Maybe time for another visit.

In my recent two trips to Wheeling Island, I was the only one playing their DD in most of the time. Before that, I have to wait to get a seat. It is a dramatic change. What they only did is to raise the table minimal from $10 to $15. It doesn't bother me because I usually play green chips. I don't mind lowering my winnings in the first place because it is the only DD in the east coast and I see it as an entertainment. I don't know why other APs stop playing. Maybe $10 to $80 spread is good for them but $15 to $120 spread is bad because $100 bet triggers check play.

As I understand it, The DD no longer has RSA ... and the penetration has been severely degraded as well.

They do not offer RSA, they were typically cutting 3/4 deck but we seen several dealers that were in the 1/2 deck range. They only reason we stopped going was due to the difficulty in getting a seat. Thanks for the update.

They knew who he was. It was most likely his posts about the counters table, "the only DD game on the East Coast", that got the rules changed. They might not know that they have the only DD game on the East Coast but they know they have a DD game on the East Coast. I think they knew it was that game that he kept posting about don't you.
