Wonging . . . . How To ?

In my area there are only 6 and 8 deck shoe games.
1. Do i have to begin counting each shoe at the very beginning ?
2. If Not what is the correct way to count a shoe already started?
I'm assuming I should correctly estimate the # of decks already discarded to tray and begin there.
Please correct me if I'm wrong and explain Please.

Okay so let's say you have a RC of +10, you are 3 decks into an 8-deck shoe, and you've been sitting at the table and counting for 1 of those 3 decks.

You therefore know that your RC of +10 is distributed into 7 unseen decks.

So your true count is +10/7.

As a corollary, it's like getting 2 decks worse penetration. So at the end of that shoe, if the dealer placed the cut card at 7/8 through the shoe, it's like she placed the cut card at 5/8ths . So at the end, if your RC is +4, that would normally be like a TC of +4 (+4/1_deck)! Yet since you missed 2 decks at the beginning, it's actually TC of +1 (+4/3_unseen_decks).

Edit: The reason is because that +4 can be anywhere in the 3 unseen decks. Normally, you know that the +4 is only going to be in that last 1 deck. Yet in this case, it has a 67% chance of being in the first 2 decks before you got to the table.
