Bet spread?

#1
I think I need a change. I've been playing with a 1-10 spread starting with $5 at 0 and going up $5 for every true count up to $50. The problem is, as you guys all know, the counts don't always get that high so I don't really have much money out there. And since I can only find seats at $10 tables, my bets don't increase until a true 3. What would be a better bet spread for me with a 2k bankroll?

So your max bet is at a TC of +9? That's way to late. You should be making your max bet around +4 or so. Waiting for +9 is a waste of time. You will very rarely see a TC that high so you won't be making much money.

It depends on the rules of the game, your playing style and how much risk you're willing to take. With a $2k bankroll the rule of thumb is to have a max bet of $20. In a standard 6D game your bet spread might look like:

0 = $0
+1 = $10
+2 = $10
>+2 = $20

That would earn about $5/hour with close to a 5% chance (1-in-20) of losing it all. If you are comfortable taking on more risk then you can spread higher and enter the game a little earlier but with such a small bankroll it would be very dangerous.

You can search these forums for more information about the bet spreads people use, and there is also some advice in the Gamemaster's free counting course in the Free Counting Resources thread.

Good advice by Sonny.

You could probably get away with a max bet of around $30, which would be about full-Kelly at a True count of +4.

I would wong aggressively. In at +2 and out at 0 would be good.

So something like:

0: Wong out
+1: 10
+2: 10
+3: 20
>=+4: 30

Any more than this would be over-betting though. Tough to do much with a br of $2k, but good luck.

Would that be a bit too agressive? as a TC +2 only yeild little advantage? shall he not make the spread wider?

As i am also in the position to consider the bet spread.

Thanks

Thanks for all the info guys I really appreciate it, especially Sonny. And thanks for that link it's so helpful. I'm going to AC today and I'll definitely be using a new spread. Another thing, say I decide my max bet to be $30, would it be better to play 2 hands of $15?

Yes, spreading to 2 hands will make it less risky without giving up any profit. There is some information about that in the FAQ thread. Although most casinos make you bet 2xMin on each hand, so a $10 table would usually require a $20 bet on each hand. It also assumes that you only play at tables with open adjacent spots, which may not always be possible in AC especially at the low minimum tables.

This is more reasonable. I'd be going to two hands whenever possible, as well. No sense in cover plays with a small bank.
