Well here we go. Another thread that has deteriorated into nonsense and sniping attacks that does isn't really benificial to anyone. So I might as well add to it. :laugh:
CP actually just confirmed Aslan's concern about the divisiveness of the bash with his admission that he views people who attend differently than those that don't, but I haven't encountered others sharing his bias so far.
Shad's comment about not sitting with the kool kids seems a little inappropriate and silly. (BTW, it's spelled kewl
)
I personally think the bash is probably a good thing and can be advantagous to those that choose to attend. CP should feel good about his sponsorship of it. I personally have been invited twice, which I appreciate, but have not yet attended. I have both professional and personal reasons for not doing so. On a professional note I spend 50ish hours per week in casinos and play upwards of 2000 hands of blackjack per week. The last thing I want to do is spend several days of my precious free time flying across country to play blackjack socially. I am not all that interested in the
lasting bonds of friendship nor
comraderie. I do see value in the networking aspect, but again, not at the expense of both time and money involved. As machinist mentioned, I also have concerns about playing with a group of AP's. As a solo player I have gone to great lengths to develope a style that protects my longevity. I don't see playing with a group of AP's as benificial. I also have personal reasons for not attending, which I have no need to air publicly.
I did attend a gathering of members from another site last year which was held locally in Las Vegas in which we shared stories, info, yet did not play together. I was much more comfortable with that.
So I say, if people want to attend, then attend. Have a great time, benifit all you can, and be sure to post about the experience. I enjoy reading about it. If people don't want to go, then don't go. It by no means defines who you are to me. I may not be brillant, but I am smart enough to figure out who is legit and who isn't without actually meeting them.
