After a good BJ win I figured I would run $20 through the VP machine... vp here is generally poor but I figured I'd have a bit of fun and rack up a couple player card points.

I was playing Deuces Wild, and held 3 to the royal. Sure enough when I drew, the missing queen and ace came in.

It was graveyard shift, DEAD, so only one person noticed, despite my loud exclamation of joy.

Unfortunately I left my camera phone in the car... I wanted to document it!
Congrats!!!:celebrate

I am very, very happy for you...you deserve this great experience.

Now you will find yourself a VP player as well as BJ.

Congratulations! I have quite a few of those photos on my cell phone.

Warning, VP is addictive! That "high" you get from hitting a royal is really that and you can end up like a rat in a lab with electrodes on its head pushing a button to get its pleasure centers stimulated.

For about a year I played a good amount of JoB video poker. I figured it was good cover, quicky bumped up my comps and room offers and teir level at my "home base" casino. I fugured that if I could hit a royal somewhere along the line, it would put me close enough to even to make these these benifits worth it.

Earlier this summer, having never hit the royal I gave up that quest and stopped playing VP, except for a dozen or so spins each trip just to play through the casino slot credits. You have to play the credits through once before cashing out. Two months ago in August I hit the royal (as mentioned earlier in this thread) while playing through my slot credits. Last night I hit the royal for a second time. :):) Seems unbelievable to me because it has only been several hundred spins since my last hit. I only play about 20 spins each trip just to play through the credits. I guess the secret is to not be trying to hit.

I don't know the exact figures but yes, I'm sure it does. :) I remember after hitting the first royal back in august, I roughly figured I was still a couple hundred down in actual returns, but I considered that a good investment because of all the additional comps, plus free room offers. The free room offers allows me to spend more time at the BJ tables and less time traveling back and forth to Phila, so there is positive EV right there. It was also great cover as that particular casino has me down for playing as much VP as BJ.

A funny side note to the story is that when I decided to stop playing VP, prior to hitting the first royal, I was a bit annoyed because my monthly mailers from this casino now included free slot play dollars which had to be played through before cashing out, instead of the match play coupons that I had received for several years while playing only blackjack. Now after hitting 2 royals using their slot play dollars, well I'm not nearly as annoyed.
Would have taken a crap load of matchplays to equal the value I have gotten from the slot play dollars.

sheer elation

Was playing VP tonight with a fellow poster here and sure enough was lucky enough to hit a royal flush. I cant remember how many cards I had to a royal but i know it was not 4 because i would have hyped it up before actually pressing the button so i either had 2 or 3 to the royal and drew the remaining. I must say, it is really one of the best feelings in the world :cool2:

Jacks or Better.

And I have never hit a Royal Flush---even while practicing on my computer.

I have a suspicion that Royal Flushes are like abominable snowmen. Some claim to have seen one, (even caught one), but there is no proof that they exist.

But I continue the search. If they exist, I'm determined to catch one.

A watched pot never boils. As soon as you stopped chasing the Royal, it came to you. It's like so many things in life; the minute you stop the quest, it comes. It must be some mysterious universal law, or a corollary of Murphy's law: Seek not, and ye shall find!

My one and only was the end of February. Held K and A, almost drew the rest in order (J, 10, Q, K, A). I've had four several times on the first spin but that was wild.

I do have proof, a pic on my phone.

I have hit 3. Played 40-50 thousand hands without hitting any and had actually given up on the 'experiment', when I hit one playing through free play cashback. Within a short time or about 3 months, but only 2-3 thousand hands, I hit 2 more. I now have played about 20,000 more hands without hitting. I rarely play now though only playing thru free play or giving a little bit of play when I am staying at a place that comps me rooms, just to show something on the card.

Out of all the times I held 4 cards, I have never hit and like paddy, at least 2 of my hits happened while only holding 2 cards. Strange game. :)

JoB Math 9/6

I'm curious about the house edge on this machine. What does 9/6 mean? Sorry for the newbie questions, but I really have never played one.

9/6 is part of the payout table (for Full house and flush). Obviously payout influences house advantage and strategy deviations - it corresponds to the rule set of BJ games.

I've had one royal on the deal, and another incident where I threw away a rag and got dealt 5 to a royal. This should not happen!

Wow. I like the idea of a royal on the deal. :) No work involved except to quadruple check that all the hold buttons have registered.
