Spanish 21 book

Mine arrived today so you've sold at least 82 now Katerina;) At the casino I work... we were told that Spanish 21 is uncountable so we can cut with pen of 90-95% no problems :).. and has a whopping 42% profit rate for the house... that is that supposedly 42% of any money spent on that table is profit to the house. Can you verify this?? I can say from experience dealing this game that 95% of people play it using normal BJ basic strategy - barely even taking advantage of the double double downs.. maybe that's why it's so profitable... that and the match bet which most people seem to love more than the game itself.

A few months ago someone came in and took 8k off that table in 8 hrs play... playing very differently to normal BS. That got me thinking... then I found your book. My kitchen is now a fully spec'd up Spanish 21 den - cheat sheets and charts on the wall. My wife deals and I study.

Thank you! Let's just hope this opportunity lasts a while.

You must work at the MGM in Detroit. I see it all the time. The people have no CLUE how to play the game.

Does that Mich mean you're in Michigan by chance. If too personal, I understand.

I wonder what the HA is when people play SP21 like BJ. All I know is they tend to get clobbered lol. Probably the match bet is actually better for them at 3% and it's impossible to screw up lol.

That 42% is probably the "hold" I'd guess. Pretty meaningless if you ask me.

Wow, 90% huh?
You are right about the Match Bet people play it all the time but have no clue on how to play the game. You should see the looks I get when I Hit a 12 against a dealers 6 or the better one is my 14 against the dealers 3. If looks could kill I probally would be dead already.

Oh yes. The play in SP21 is terrible. Mostly older Asians who play it and they are at least civil, but a few gang-banger types play it too. One of them slapped me because he didn't like my play. No big deal, I'd rather be slapped than lose a bet.

Between the MTD bet and the horrible play the hold on those tables must be enormous. That's why I think we'll be enjoying the game for a long time.

Somebody slapped you? Why didn't you fall over, call the cops and file a civil suit? Worth a lot more than your bet (probably).

After getting into this book I'd just like to say.... what a great work this is.. well written and worthy of praisel. And to those who bemoaned it - shame on you. Negativity is the bane around the neck of all good players.. i see this in action every day of the week when I deal. Well done Katarina! May the clueless suckers keep playing SP21 with normal BJ basic strategy... and keep those of us who are on the road to enlightenment hidden for many years.

I just wondered if he was in Michigan because he said "double double downs" and I didn't think re-doubling games existed in Michigan. Do you/Mich think they exist there? Just wondered.

I've said it before but, playing SP21 for maybe 5-8 years in AC, I have never ever seen even ONE player play anything close to BS lol. Zippo, nada lol.

Well, maybe my wife, but she doesn't count since she still has to ask me on the soft double hands lol.

And, no matter what I tell her, she LOVES the match bet and I can't get her to stop lol. But then I think it's only 3% and at least she's not playing slots lol.

No redoubles at the MGM in Detroit or any other place in Michigan that I am aware of.

Thanks - I guess he maybe meant something different when he said that or, more likely I just misinterpreted it, hoping against hope lol, or lives somewhere else.

Mich - what are the rules of the game where you are?

Inplay - have you ever seen an 8d SP21 game in Michigan? I'm thinking the ones I've seen were 6 decks H17? Kind of crappy for a BS player - sometimes it made me play BJ lol. But usually lower limits still made it worthwhile. Not to mention alot more fun since I'd make everyone sick at my play lol.

Zen - i have the book - it's greeeaaatttt! As far as I am concerned.... works well and does the best it can to explain SP21 to both novice and hardcore people alike.

Where I deal - not Michigan by the way.....

6 decks... $5-$300... Pen 90-95% almost always.... H17.... split up to 4 times on any hand... double (double) down up to 3 times.. table max capped at $1000 if triple doubling down on table max... bliss really to those who know how to work it. Few do - and most get stung.

As far as I am concerned ... this and lucky ladies represent the best 'open doors' in casino vulnerability right now.

I'd like to see a sim SCORE analysis on this next-gen SP21. zg

The powers that be still look at Sp21 as a carnival game. I played today (not in my usual part of the country) and spread from 1 red to two hands of 3 blacks. Not even a glance!

Cool - been wondering how you've been doing :)

Was the pen good?

They are 6 deck H17 at the MGM can't say for all the casinos in Michigan. I just started playing Spanish 21 recently. Until reading Kat's book I just viewed Spanish 21 as just another game on the midway.

Like BJ, it depends alot on rules, pen, indexes, spread, style of play and hands per hour etc.

I mean if you asked that question about BJ, you'd end up with Chapter 10 lol.

Like 21forme hinted at, spreading 120-1 with impunity isn't all bad.

Imagine always betting exactly optimally to roll based on advantage even if it ends up a 50-1 spread in +10 counts. That backcounting stuff spreading 1 to 2 or 4 entering at +2 is a thing of the past. You don't need a 100 unit roll anymore and enter with $100. You can enter at +1 ($10) with a 1000 unit roll because you can bet 50 units at +10 instead of only 2 or 4.

My dream is give me 5 Wise Frogs (that's a new brand-name term btw for a disciplined AP bettor, kind of like Kleenex means tissue paper, but you're willing to pay for the best, in case you're behind the times lol) with $3k each willing to work 40-50 hrs a week with low ROR to triple roll every month...

I don't know, maybe when all is said and done, you could do about as well playing BJ. It's a different game. Apples and oranges to some degree.

Being the wild and crazy guy that I think you are, why not blow an hour's EV on her book and decide for yourself. I imagine you've done that more than once on a BJ book. Worst case is you have to play another hour to be back to square one.

It's less than $30 for heaven's sake.

Thanks InPlay - that's the only game I've seen too. I've never played SP21 in Mich outside of Detroit.

The AC game is much better in case you get out that way, at least from a BS point of view. I haven't analyzed the H17 6D game from an AP point of view yet in much detail.

It's all I can do to restrain my nephew from losing $500 in 20 minutes playing "intuitive" BJ when I get there 6-12 hours a year lol. Then he has no money left and I feel like I have to immediately go 45 minutes back to Ann Arbor lol.

But, sometimes, an hour later, he's up $1000 and I'm down $60 lol.

An hour later, when that rare event happens, I usually end up giving him a couple hundred to extend his play (tell him I'm ahead anyway lol) and call it a b-day present.

Then we tell his mother, my sister, who 4 times a year turns down free weeks in Vegas, we actually are related believe it or not, because she says "there is nothing to do there", yes, free, absolutely free, round-trip plane fare, suite at Bellagio, the whole works, when we get home, no matter what actually happened, that we "won a little" lol.

I don't know - do most people still get their 30-year old nephews b-day presents? What's the etiquette on that? I'm probably a bad uncle for the last 10 years lol.
