The dumbest thing you have ever seen at the table

#1
This is mine.

I've seen someone stay on 11 against a bust card.

Yes, I'm not lying no double down and no hit. he just stood on it.

Hes not a card counter as it was quite obvious he was new to the game as he would hit against a bust card sometimes and stay with 12-16 against a face. No one including myself gave him any advice as he would always take forever to decide something and we all wanted to see him lose.

The crazy thing was he wasn't making the minmum bets of $5 he was playing with green chips so $25!

When you don't know how to play a game, maybe learn it before you just throw your money out there?

In the Imperial Palce, I had a well dressed Russian lady playing green chips and busting every hand. I also lose the first few hands she is there for, but win the fourth or fifth, with an 18 vs 17 or something like that. Woman quietly asks me why I was paid. She goes on to say where she plays, you only get paid when you make exactly 21. A two card 21 pays 2-1, a three card 21 pays 4-1 and a multiple card 21 pays 10-1. I ask her why they bother having a dealers hand and she looked at me like i had three heads. She plays a few more hands, loses her buy-in and leaves.
BTW- This was pre-Harrahs when the IP offered a decent DD game.

double on single card after split

I can't resist any more. here is my contribution.

A half drunk player who has already lost a couple buy ins, wanted to split 9s against dealer's face card. That's not the worst yet. He got a 5 on first card. Now he put down another green chip and requested a double down, not the first hand, but the second one, and the dealer let him double on the single 9!!! I don't think that's allowed. Of course he lost all, but turned my three hands from losers to winners. I guess I own him to tell his store or he wouldn't even remember it:).

st

the stupidest thing i have seen was an older guy splitting 5-5 against a dealer ace in a non peek european blackjack.
i told him that was wrong, he should not play like that, he said i am a civil engineer.
the second crazy thing, that guy was betting 400$ a hand. he had 8-8
dealer has 4, he has lots of money behind. i have hard 14 or something like that. he does not split, and the dealer gets 8 and 8 20 i lose.
I ask him why he did not split, he says i have no idea about this game, i am just killing time waiting for a seat at caribbean poker.

There are several similar threads on the silliness seen at the tables in the past.

My two are:

A guy who split tens against a dealer nine, and wondered why he kept running out of chips,

A guy who hit a twenty, presumably in an attempt to steer an ace - but in a game dealt from a CSM???

I still see examples of crass stupidity that leave my bottom jaw on the floor.

A lady is playing 2 hands. Dealer has an 8 showing. Her first hand is a pair of 8's. She stands on 16. Her second hand is hard 17. She hits it and busts.

You should have told him to only split such pairs if they're the same suit too!

The dumbest!

The absolute dumbest was when some jerk put the chips in his mouth then took them out and made a bet with them. This grossed out not only the dealer but the rest of us at the table. I have seen plenty of guys drain the lizard in the bathroom and not wash thier hands. I had to wonder what the chips tasted like and then I didn't want to imagine.:vomit:

It's not "obvious" stupidity, but my guess is that about 98% of players come to the table with an insufficient bankroll -- and in the long term, that's fatal.
no, 99.9% of bj population has no clue what br is...and even the so called ap's that do, 98% of them play w/ insufficient br's

You should have explained that they didn't have to match either in suit or picture. Then she could have had more fun.

I have had two different cards, like a 7 and a 5, and asked the dealer if I can split them. So far, no takers. :(

This must be why chips frequently stick together.
Can you imagine if we were to swab chips and culture the results...EWWWWW:laugh:

I've done this too, it's sort of funny to see the look on their faces as they try to figure out what I'm thinking or if I'm really serious.

I've even said, hey, I don't like this 16 (7&9) can I split it.

Just like you, so far, no takers.

There is this female AP in my local casino. She always has this Basic Strategy card on the table, so she could pretend that she has to look it up when there is a "difficult" hand like A7 against 5. Our max bets have 80% of correlation. Thanks God she is using either Zen or Hi Lo that put much weight on ace instead of 9 that my Omega II counting system put weight on. So when the deck is ace rich, she has max bet while I am still in the middle range, thus our bet sizes are not identical all the time. (I know this because I have ace side count. So I paid particular attention when this happened. And often it proves Omega II is superior to Zen.) So, this dealer is also a counter. (He told me once. He played at other casino.) And once more, the female AP pretended again that she does not know what to do and had to look up the card. My dealer friend told her "Stop it, I know you are the top few counters frequent this casino." She blushed her face. And next hand she stayed at 13 against dealer's 8. I had 15, draw a 7 that was supposed to be hers. The next player had 13, draw a 4 that was supposed to mine. The next card was 8, bust next player's hand. And dealer indeed had 18. Everyone in the table lost their hands, just because the girl need a dumb move (not draw a card to prove she is not very good). If she had hit her 13 against dealer's 8, everybody in the table would have won!

The winner goes to,...

The *dumbest* by far is this.
I was at Caesars over the weekend, in the high-limit room.
I was playing with one other guy at the table.
Now listen to this. Are you ready?
He was playing full basic strategy without counting.
OMG!!! How stupid,...
He was flat betting $100 the whole time without varying his bets with the count.
When the remaining deck composition was rich in high-value cards, he failed to raise his bets.
He also neglected to wong out at abysmally negative counts. Wow!
Sitting at a blackjack table without counting,... now that’s truly stupid. LOL!
