Where to stay question

It's looking like i'll be going to a conference being held at caesars later this summer. Looking at google maps and using expedia it looks like Treasure Island is the only place within walking distance that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Does anybody have any other suggestions. Or can somebody tell me if there are trams or free shuttles available from other places so that i wouldn't have to worry about walking. Having never been to vegas i figured this would be as good a place as any to ask.

TI is nice, but beware of the resort fee ($20/night + tax), as they have the highest resort fee on the strip. When I was there end of last year, they didn't charge me any, because I purchased my vacation in advance, before they had resort fee. But I don't think there's any way you can get away with it now.

Its location is a little bit north, but it's very close to some other nice hotels like Wynn, Palazzo, Venetian, and Mirage. There's a free tram from TI to Mirage, so that might make your walk to Caesar's a little bit easier. There's also a Walgreen's right across the street from TI, which might come in handy.

The casino at TI was pretty dead when I was there, but Mirage's casino was bustling. And as far as I've read, it's rated very well for its blackjack. So, if you stay at TI, you might want to play at Mirage, which is very convenient with the free tram.

If I go to Vegas again, I'd probably choose Mirage, but TI is ok too, except the ridiculous mandatory rip off fee.

Almost directly across from Caesars, you have Harrahs,Imperial Palace and Casino Royale. All should be cheaper than TI. You could also stay at The Gold Coast, walk across the street to The Rio and use the free shuttle between Rio/Caesars and Harrahs, but I would not recommend that. Bills is another cheap alternative that is perhaps a five minute walk to Caesars.

thanks for the heads up on the resort fees as i was not aware of those. Looks like most everything in the general area is going to be about the same price as far as bally's, harrah's, etc. i'll have to keep looking around i guess.

You can stay at RIO [about $40/night midweek) and use their free shuttle to Caesars, presuming that it is still operating.

I'd suggest calling center-strip properties and asking for a "casino rate" which is automatically given to anyone implying that they might play a few hands of BJ.

The buffet at RIO is exceptional. The rooms are better than what you'd expect. They are all mini-suites. The BJ sux.

Keep in mind that summer is the off season in Vegas. The rates you are looking at now are cut dramatically in most places in July and August.

yeah, i'm comparing prices at the time i'm gonna be there. caesar's seems to be about 200-300 more than most every other place in that general area. It's mostly a work related trip so there is no need to pay extra for a bigger pool and fitness room that i won't be using.

sites

May I suggest Cheapovegas.com for rates and info. They have direct websites viewing which is pretty good plus you may get some people that let you know how to get a better deal. This is a free site and also rates overall conditions and game ratings of most but not all the casinos.

When staying on the strip I like to stay at the Sahara and take the monorail wherever I want to go as that's usually the cheapest option. Unfortunately, the monorail doesn't go to the west side of the strip, you'd have to get off at Bally's and walk across the pedestrian bridge.

If you are only concerned with multiple trips up and down the strip the absolute cheapest way is the deuce bus. A 24 hour pass costs $7. 3 day pass cost $15. Clock starts ticking apon first use of pass. Seniors age 60+ or persons with disabilities (which includes anyone on SS disability) passes are 50% off, $3.50 for 24 hours and $7.50 for 3 day pass.

Incidentally these passes are good for all RTC buses, if you care to try to tackle the transit system for trips elsewhere in vegas.

I remember reading somewhere that you could take the bus to the downtown main station and get a transit ID, which gave you a discount......

I always travel by car to Vegas but still prefer the monorail because it takes forever to travel around the strip by car. Besides the constant traffic, every casino except the Sahara has horrible parking that is literally up to a mile away from the casino. Also you don't have to be sober to ride.

Ever hear of Valet parking? It's the best value in Vegas. For traveling up and down the strip, simply use the streets on either side of it.

I guess I should amend my quote. The absolute cheapest way up and down the strip is walking. (might be the fastest as well) I walk that baby several times a week, although I realize some of you can't or choose not to do so.

Please give me a time to be watching for you when I'm out there next week. You must carry a huge bankroll and I'll be hiding in the bushes!:laugh:
Seriously, I probably won't get any closer to the strip than LV Hilton.
If and when I move out there, I'll probably make the same choice as you have. About 12 years ago I walked from ExCaliber to Stardust carrying a heavy suitcase and actually enjoyed it.
