Blackjack is a game with a large variance... The best answer would be as many as you reasonably can, assuming you are using a sim and computer.
The greater the bet size varies the larger the sample size you'll need.
If it were me, I wouldn't use a system in BJ without at least 1,000,000 trials. (unless of course you like to gamble)
I've heard of sims losing nearly 10,000 hands in a row with a proven counting/betting system. While that's extreme and very rare, it helps you see how many trials you need to run in the event something like that happens.

The final result is a nice 50 unit win. Is this the result of his flawless expertise as a pro? How does he really know? I thought it takes thousands of hands to prove a system is effective. I would say that the counter will have that same situation you described above, only come away with some amount of units lost from time to time. The only thing is that the counter will probably have more times coming out ahead.
The result of his perfect play is that this scenario is more likely, but no, this one session alone is definitely not enough to know if he's doing everything correctly.
There are plenty of people making ridiculous plays that win much more than this.
