Define a good game?

Generally, the fewer decks the better, all other things being equal.
Eight decks is bad, six is mediocre, four is better, two ect,ect.
A dealer standing on all 17s is good, a dealer hitting soft 17s is not as good.
You want to be able to double on any two cards( DOA) and double after splits(DAS). Europeans play a different game, where the dealer does not take a hole card. This game uses different basic strategy(BS) than most games referenced here. I've never played it, myself.
You really need to do some reading on your own. If you keep asking really basic questions, you will wear out your welcome fairly quickly.
If you can't find some books, use the lessons offered at the BJ School on the left of the screen.

Thanx ^^, that really helped me out.
Don't listen to any of that. $200 at a $10 or $20 minimum is not nearly enough. For a shoe game you'd be wanting to think at a $10 or $20 minimum you're talking more along the lines of a bankroll of $10000 and $20000, or you can play like you have that much money and replenish your bankroll on a regular basis.
As for conditions most of it has been covered, but you really need to pay attention to the penetration level. The fewer cards the casino cuts off at the end of a shoe, the better.

I'm a rookie, and I want to know what defines a good game. I'm looking mainly for shoe games. How do I know if a table's offering good/bad games. Please elaborate the acronyms, I'm still not familiar with most of them.
The goodness of your game is not solely determined by the house rules but also by your playing and betting strategy, which in turn depends on the casino,your act..., anyway to get an overall idea about the strength of your game you will need to plug in the values into a simulator and get the SCORE (Standardized Comparison Of Risk and Expectation) to compare different games.
you can also look at the SCORE chart (using solely card counting) for these days games and see where your game stands. Dobra?

For a player just starting out, penetration is meaningless. In fact, you want to play at a table with the worse penetration possible. The only time a beginner is not at a disadvantage is when the cards are being shuffled.
Why do you people insist on giving advantage play advice to complete newcomers?
Telling someone they need $20,000 before they sit at a blackjack table is a bad joke.
Yes this is a beatable game. Would I play it if I were in Vegas... NO!!! There are much better games to be had.
I think it's far worse to encourage people to gamble at all, when they are decidedly NOT at an advantage. Losing a little slower or a little faster doesn't really matter much, if they're still losing. Why lose at all?
It's not unreasonable to think that, in this forum, the desire to play at an advantage is a safe assumption.

In terms of pen or in terms of number of decks, or both? I generally don't find great pen in DD games in Vegas, and usually run into H17, but I will play 6D with 75%, and I have gotten as much as 85% in unlikely places like Paris. Last time I was at Planet Hollywood, the DD pen had gone to roughly 50%. I complained to the pit, and they said that's what they tell us to do. I told him that I had read that you have to deal enough cards to give the good cards a chance to come out. He just shrugged his shoulders.
