The other night the dealer at my table suggested a player surreneder his 16v10. Maybe it's just the places I play but I've never seen a dealer who actually knew anything about surrender. Most I've met say it's "always a bad move." I almost congradulated him for not being an idiot. But decided it was best to keep quiet.

I have yet to see a dealer know BS completely. I have been questioned when hitting soft 18 v a dealer 9,10 or A. I even had a mini argument with a player and dealer at the same time when the player didn't split 4s against a 5. They were both adamant he made the right play, so I attempted to correct them both, only to be told I was wrong. Oh well.
Whats to be gained by correcting anyone at a table, especially a dealer? What good could come from it?
My thought exactly.
That's just the way some people are. If they see someone doing something wrong the first thing they think to do is let the person know.

In my playing days prior to undertaking counting (very recently) I have won at the table side bets with other players who were mouthing about a wrong play someone made. I have always carried one of the little gift shop variety basic strategy charts in my pocket so the bet decider was on hand.
One time I recall was over splitting nines. A player was arguing that you don't split nines against a nine. I said, "you may not, but basic strategy says you do." He argued. I laid a c note on the table rail and said put your money where your mouth is and we'll get a basic strategy chart to decide the winner. He plopped up the $100.
The other deal with an identical bet was over hitting a soft 18 against a dealer ten. Another hundred in my pocket. Goodness knows it was probably more than I won any other way that night.
There have been others from time to time and some are willing to put up some money. If they won't go for a large, I ask just how certain they are and offer to reduce the bet. Some have. Some have not. More often than not they just slink back into their stool.
I may not do those things anymore since I am trying to count, but back then it was just easy money.

Part of the fun of the game is listening to dealers and also players say the dumbest things and just make asses of themselves. I really thing they believe what they are saying, I just chuckle, unless they are directing something at me, and then maybe I will make a comeback.

I usually try to tell people to surrender their 16s at the right times, but mostly they just play how they play. i do like to see people win tho im just helping them lose less.
Actually, all you are doing is exposing yourself as a BS player, which will result in the casino giving you less comps.

I saw a dealer last night tell a player not to split 9's against a 6, and he actually talked him out of it. When I tried to correct the dealer he became argumentative. Needless to say he didn't get tipped...by anyone from what I saw. He did however, generously tip one of the players 2.5 times what she had coming on the Royal Match.

Well unless he gets comped while he's dealing then I don't think they'll dock his comps

In my parts this does not apply, as comps are based simply on average bet and time played.
I seriously doubt that is the case. Every casino I have played in and every pit boss I have befriended rates their players. It's usually on a one to three rating and getting rated as someone who knows BS will get you less comps than someone rated an unskilled player.
