What is the stupidest play you've seen playing blackjack?

Just yesterday, I went to a casino and I was playing for fun to kill time and during one shoe, this guy had an ace and a 5, and the dealer had a 10. He stayed! I had a 19 and the dealer showed a ten and then flipped over a 5, and then the next card that the player before me should of hit and got was a 5. making the dealer get 20 and making everyone at the table lose. :sad:
That was one story of the night. The next story was where I played at a table where this guy always doubled on his hands that were totaling 7-9 but not 10 and 11. he doubled on a 4-3 against a dealer's 10. then another player at the table doubled a 10 and a 5...and then the dealer asked if they knew how to play. He said, "no, not really." Openly admitting not knowing how to play. the only reason he doubled was cause the player next to him doubled a 5-5.

Stupid plays when they are a no-brainer. jeez!

Not hitting A5 against a 10 is obviously awful, and I've seen similar plays before. I would like to know what the worst EV play is that you have ever seen?

I'm not sure offhand what the worst EV play I've ever seen was, but a few weeks ago I saw a player split 66 and then 77 against a dealer T on consecutive hands. (He lost all "four.")

I also saw someone take insurance in a doubledeck pitch game once when the count was so unbelievably negative that I was thinking "there might be exactly zero tens left." Of course the ploppy had no idea just how bad this particular insurance bet was.

Someone who admittedly didn't know how to play hit his hard 18 vs a 6, and happened to get a 3, so he was quite happy about that, even though it was a very -EV play.

I cringe whenever I see people put forward a second bet with 55 then the dealer asks "Double or split"

They then think for a second or two and announce "I'll split".

I've seen someone hit a hard twenty . . . . in order to eat up a card as part of a sequencing attempt. Trouble was it was playing against a 1-2-6. Go figure?

And then again I've seen someone break up two jacks against a dealer nine?

It's not uncommon to see people misplay soft hands. It just shows that they don't understand the concept of soft hands. So while standing on A5 vs anything, let alone a dealer 10, makes no sense, you can understand why they are doing it. They just don't understand the concept of soft hands. But when I see people stand on a hard hand of 11 or below, it just blows my mind. I have seen people stand with a hard 7? I can't possibly comprehend the thought process behind such a move, except of course that you are playing a game that you have absolutely no concept about.

I also don't think someone hitting a hard 20, because the are eating cards because they are playing an advanced advantage play strategy qualifies. It may look stupid, but if they draw a BJ on the next hand with table max because of it, is it really stupid?

During this years Super Bowl, a guy at my electronic BJ table hit a pair of 10s and drew an Ace. Obviously he wasn't paying attention, but awhile later, he did it again, thinking there might be a glich that rewards people for doing stupid things. He reasoned the computer might be set to reward plays like that to entice people to play wildly. Needless to say, he'd been drinking heavily and celebrating his beloved Saints.

If it had been against a traditional shoe I would agreee - but against a CSM? I would have loved to have known what his strategy was, but alas he was Italian e la mia Italiana non e troppo bene . . . Perhaps he must have thought he'd found some consistent cycles in the way the cards came out and was going to exploit this. Or he was just off his nut? Whether he was right or wrong it turned out to be an expensive lesson (although that's all relative of course).

Stated reasoning: "I was trying to recover my insurance loss".

I'd have to say a lady doubling her HARD 15 vs my 5 was the worst, second worst was this one guy who hit his hard 18 against my 10, and actually pulled a 3, although i would have broke no matter what he did. he also hit hard 17 like 4 times.

I have hit that hard 18 against a 10, but I knew a 2 was next.:laugh:

I recently hit a hard twenty. It was a low, but positive count and I had a quarter bet and this plop was back betting me seventy five. Stated plop had recently split tens against a five at TC +4 ish. The only problem? I was back betting him at $950 and reluctantly followed through with the split. He turned a sweet win into a mehish push and I wanted revenge, so with only $25 on the line and a desire to punish this plop I took a card.

Of course the blackjack god's mocked me mercilessly with an ace and I was too defeated by the vagaries of fate to pull again. Hilariously the plop KEPT back betting me.

On a recent trip to Reno and Wendover I saw some totally stupid and illogical plays. One guy was dealt 2-8 and stood on hard 10. Another guy stood on 3-2. Another guy stood on A-5. When I questioned him about standing he said he never hits 16. I tried to explain that he was actually standing on 6 and he said "it's 6 or 16, and I choose it to be 16, and I never hit 16!" So of course he lost the hand and screwed up my double down (the next card was a 4) so I began to berate his play at every given opportunity until he got mad and left the table...and then I made a small killing after he left.

One time I saw a lady hit hard 17 and draw a 10 (again screwing up my double down). When I asked her about her boneheaded play she said she stood on 17 four previous times that shoe and a 4 was the next card every time to which I replied: "Do you think this shoe has an unlimited supply of fours?"

I was in Vegas a few weeks ago and was playing on a table with a bunch of guys. They were doubling on hard 12-16, standing on 5-10, just some rediculous plays. However, they knew they were throwing money away and were just having fun. One guy was apparently super unlucky with the cut card; he would bribe me for the card so he can make his friends lose lol. I happily gave it to him . In the end though, they were playing too slow, so I left at the next negative count.

The dealer said "you have 21..you don't hit that" He still insisted that he wanted to hit. The dealer repeatedly told the man no.. you don't hit 21. About a minute later.. the dealer just says.. "i'm not going to give you another card and proceeded to the next player.

On the contrary, I got him to leave the table, went one on one against the dealer and cleaned up. I also got on the good side of the dealer and the PB. They didn't like the way he played either. Apparently he keeps doing that and runs other people off from the tables. The PB gave me a dinner comp even though I didn't ask for one or have a players club card.
