Very, VERY rarely will give any money to beggars but couldn't resist one of my first times in Vegas when a guy was sitting there with a sign that said "why lie, I need beer!". Gotta reward his honesty.

That's an old ploy. Panhandlers are avid students of human nature. And you fell for it. It wasn't honesty so much as complying with the old adage, "Honesty is the best con." In that sense, it was totally dishonest. And maybe it was dishonest, too, since he may have said beer, because beer is more socially acceptable; if he had told the truth and said crack cocaine, you would have probably declined to contribute.

A couple of bucks is no big deal--who's saying anything different. Speaking of high horses, you seem to be saddled up yourself. The thing is, many people either don't realize what they're doing when they give money indiscriminately, or they only do it to make themselves feel better. Until you've spent some time with homeless people, and I'm not saying you haven't, you may not realize the truth of the situation. Two of my homeless friends died of alcohol so maybe my perspective is a little different than others. And one of them died not too long after he had detoxed and dried out, but then began drinking again for a very short period. I'm glad I didn't contribute to that bottle that killed him.

When my kids were in grade school, the school raised money by selling "scrip" - a fancy word for gift certs to various places and the school gets a cut. I almost always had some of these in my purse and that's what I'd offer street people if they were begging. Unless they've cut a deal with a buddy at McDonald's or wherever, however, they don't really want these because it's not about food - it's about cash, usually to buy drugs and/or alcohol.
One of the most brazen "begs" I've ever come across was a woman who parked her car at the local In 'n' Out and was hustling everyone through the drive-through with sob story about having an abusive husband and having to take the kids and run but the car broke down... I don't know or care if it was even true or what parts were true. Because that wasn't the most outrageous part of this beg. When I offered her $5, she was offended - she wanted someone to buy her entire family dinner at In 'N' Out! I told her $5 was all I could give her, she could probably get 4 or 5 more people to chip in and she'd have enough - take it or leave it. She turned it down. I was completely amazed - I have never had a beggar turn down money before - or tell me what I was offering wasn't enough. :flame:

A lot of homeless people are mentally ill, but I've never met one who was that crazy!
Yeah I found one of those chicks. She was this freaking gorgeous asian chick with amazing breasts and ass, and was trying to hustle me to play her lucky ladies and double downs, and then maybe pay for a night with one of her Asian hos. I doubled one hand down and played one lucky lady for her at table minimum, and got 8 hrs of good fondle action out of it. It was all "baby" this and "baby" that until she realized I was a no pay for play type guy but was a "fondle for free" type guy, lol.
The amount of begging in Vegas is unbelievable. I think I got a good 5 or 6 street beggars walk up to me and ask for money while I was there. The only time I gave was when I gave some bread and milk to this woman who brought her child out begging with her. I was sort of repulsed that she probably doesn't care for the child much more than as a means to get charity.

No, she wasn't hungry, she was a drug addict. 100% of the people panhandling in parking lots are drug addicts. 0% will admit it even if you confront them. Even the ones with signs that say "Why lie? I need beer" aren't buying beer, they're buying dope.

Don't know why Aslan revive a thread being quiet for 11 months, that I started when the Rivers and the Meadows opened the table games in July 2010. At that time, I saw people begging for money in both casinos when they run out of the funds.
It was a short phenomenon. So my guess is that people DO NOT give away their money and the problem solved itself quickly.

Also, if you check back one more frame, you'll see zengrifter advertising for a flux capacitor for his trip back to the present time. The Wizard may have been responsible for his expeditious return. I bought in with quarters from my car's ashtray once to finish off a double down. The look on the dealer's face was priceless. It's a long story, but it was a low limit promo where I flat bet 2x25 so I had only brought a few hundred with me. I had a very bad run to start and lost what was in my wallet plus the $500 ATM withdrawal and couldn't get more out till midnight. Prior to the last shoe I went out to the car and got the few dollars in quarters just in case.
Anyways, I won the double down, rallied hard and they cancelled the promo about a week later after I was up about 10-11k. True story.
