surrender

If anyone can respond tonight that would be great. i have a dealer who is letting me surrender on any number of cards. My instinct tells me this can be hugely advantageous. How should I play now? I guess if I have a losing hand I surrender but what are the losing hands? Any stiff vs >6?????

You can find surrender tables for any set of rules here on the site (basic strategy engine).

This is a big advantage, as far as I can recall - never played it - can't say I have any numbers.

Just use the tables - it doesn't matter if you have a 2-card 16 or a 5-card one (unless 5-card charlie is in effect :-) - surrender rules are the same. Surrender is a great rule for the house as most ploppies who actually use it surrender much too often.

In case you're on a smartphone -
S17
Surrender 16 vs 9,10,A
Surrender 15 vs 10

H17
Surrender 17 vs A
Surrender 16 vs 9,10,A
Surrender 15 vs 10, A

PM me if you have more questions.

okay thanks so the strategy would be the same, then I wonder how much it adds to EV

Only ~ 0.2% for BS (?), much more I presume (plus lower variance) if you're counting

How'd you come up with that number out of curiosity???

And yes, there are some special bonuses for multiple card hands so I will adjust my decisions based on that (i.e. in some cases not surrendering 4+ card 16v10 the count may dictate it in some situations). That's not that important, as I know what to do with those situations and how to adjust the count, but I was just curious if the underlying surrender strategy would change, which you've already answered.

Be a Bit More Aggressive

Bet a little more then you usually do unless like many players you are already overbetting. Especially on higher counts when you use your surrender indices, if you know them.

However, don't bet so much that you draw heat, pit attention, lose your advantage because pit corrects dealer

Whoa, no! If you're playing a game with double down rescue, you already know which hands justify pulling back half of your bet and folding your hand. Remember your edge has to be -50% or worse to surrender, not just any -EV hand.

On 2-card hands, you are going to be incrementally less likely to surrender any hand that is lower than the highest hand you would surrender against that upcard. E.g. you are less likely to surrender 14 vs. 10, because you know you can surrender if you draw an Ace or 2. It may or may not be enough to raise your index number by a TC. I'd recommend just playing your hand normally.

I think "incrementally" is the word... I can't imagine it being significant in a shoe game. If this is being applied on a pitch game - then it's a true candy store....

To my understanding, he's posting about a dealer error, not double-down rescue.

I think I saw it in a rule table somewhere... As to what it's worth for an AP, would have to run some sims. This sounds like an interesting game - it's good, whatever it is - to squeeze the most out of it you might want to run an index generation which takes into account Surrender on any number of cards+ the multi-card bonuses.

From the rules you're describing - Are you sure you're not talking about "Super Fun 21", in which a BJ pays even money, unless it's suited in diamonds?

I believe the 0.02% is for LS only, not for LS any number of cards ?
Also, % for index play should vary depending on your betting ramp...

0.02% for Basic Strategy. (Surrender only on 4 occasions: 16 vs. 9/10/A, 15 vs. 10, assuming S17).

0.20% for index play.
