I try relentlessly but unsuccessfully to teach my friends not to play it. It's impossible to reason with them, at least mathematically. They believe in the lucky numbers streak. As if there is a pattern to the numbers. Black or red streak. Or #17 keeps hitting. My lucky number is 5. Impossible to reason with them, I tell you.
 
I don't think they need to do either of these. The electronic version of roulette are already speeding things up dramatically, which should create more profits and less expense as you would not need the second dealer to help with payouts and stacking. I am not talking about the slot machine sized video roulette. I am more referring to the use of electronic wagering where each player wagers on his own screen and layout, but the roulette dealer (is that the right term?) still spins the ball on the actual roulette wheel, easing player fears that the game is electronically rigged. The game will go quicker eliminating payout time and reducing wagering time. I think you will see more of these come to be used.
 
You are refering to Touch_bet Roulette or another brand Rapid_Roulette. There are probably other brands out there. They have been in use here in Singapore for several years now.
The one they use here in the Genting casino has 200 terminals or betting stations and I have time the play at 43 seconds a round. Much faster than the old style Roulette. And they can drop the minimum bet to say $2 a bet. So even the small player can play Roulette.
But we have the single zero version so Roulette is quite popular here. Sometimes I see almost all 200 terminals are occupied.
 
I'm still pretty new to Blackjack,but I've been living in Vegas since January, and haven't seen any 6-5 games at the places I play.

also,when did all of vegas start hitting soft 17? Read a book a few months back to avoid those games,and said you'd mostly find them in downtown Vegas.Looks like that printing is already out of date.
 
I'm on the last of my trip here in LV. I'm now writing this post to you from my BB standing in front of Orleans :)

Based on my observations and plays variety of places, the conditions are pretty bad compared to those I had in my last visit which was on Aug 09. I've been reading here that BJ games have been deteriorating and I now have seen it with my very own eyes. I'm now thinking if I should proceed to move Vegas for living!

Keep in mind that some of the better opportunities are not located right on the strip. You may have to go looking for some of them. ;) The strip for the most part, is for tourists. People that get off the plane with the intent of losing some money. :eek: Of course that is not to say that there aren't some good opportunities on the strip as well. :)

I personally don't need to play the best games, with best rules or deepest penetration. (I like to, but don't have to) I have played mediocre, average to what some consider below average games for most of my career and there are still many of these on the strip. And for me, that is the advantage of the strip and vegas in general. There are many many, what I consider playable games in close proximity.

I am not trying to sway your decision, just pointing out things you may not be considering. In the end weigh all the factors and best of luck with your decision.

I do. I'm always on the run looking for better opportunities. Majority of strip casinos don't have betable games. All we do is fall behind and get even after hours of play or make alittle profit which barely cover expenses.

I've always been against playing at the casinos in downtown because of too much scrutiny and sweaty pit, till yesterday. I started the adventure with a losing session at EC. After thatan some profit session at fitz, the returned to EC and got some money back but pit is watching the games so closely. it's a scruffy place and I don't like it much although the rules of their game are not so bad, actually playable.

I agree with you about finding tons of places in LV but it's still too much effort that must be given in order to make considerable amount of money. I can definitely be willing to do it but the AP's edge got so smaller that I don't know if it's worth to pursue. After long years of playing BJ, the psychological aspects of game is becoming unbearable.

I'm now in the parking lot of EC :) and my last comment is about the average games you said you'd prefer to play. In such conditions, player having a smaller edge, don't u think playing such games would scrutinize your winnings?

I didn't say I prefer to play average games. I said I am willing to play average games. Of course I still prefer and try to play the best games I can find.

I don't understand the meaning of your final question. 'scrutinize your winnings'? :confused: I have looked up scutinize, just in case there was a meaning that I was not familiar with, but I can't figure out what you are trying to ask. sorry. :o

And lastly, I see you are from Orange County, Cal. If you did make such a move, with the Vegas property values, the rent or mortage that you are paying in Cal, can get you 5 times the home in Vegas. :eek::):laugh:

Did he mean "beatable" or bettable?" Yeah, you're right, a marginal game is beatable, and there are plenty of them. Not worth the effort though. The better games are often in the HL area, which usually keeps me out, except for double deck. I prefer the double deck games (who wouldn't?), but they are often sweaty in Vegas. Still, I do better with a double deck H17 game with fair pen than I do with an 6 or 8-decker S17 with marginal pen. No reason to go to Vegas, IMHO, if you don't play the double deck games. And sometimes you will run into a 6 or 8-decker with great pen; they are worth holding out for.

The doubledeck games seem like a gold mine to those of us who grew up on east coast games. But more often than not they are 'hawked' pretty severely. If you are a regular vegas player, you can't just play the double deck game. I have a couple places hawking me at their doubledeck game spreading 1-4, but when I play their 6 deck game with 5 deck penetration and spread 1-16, they seem much less concerned. I can make just as much money playing that 6 deck game, especially with only 1 or 2 other players, which is a situation you rarely get anymore on the east coast. So I am going to disagree with your statement, "no reason to go to Vegas, if you don't play double deck". How about considering, better conditions. That doesn't necessarily mean better rules either. Tables with one or two players, or more tables, which makes for easier wonging and table hopping qualify as better conditions. Just my opinion. :)
 
Vegas has absolutely fantastic shoe games. Some of the best in the country. S17 LS RSA with a 1 deck cut is quite good. There's even a few places cutting a half deck.

Roulette also translates as "little wheel." since we are playing a french game with a french name, might as well use french terms to describe each part of the game. Although, since it is a french game, shouldn't there be an early surrender option? :whip:

you don't go into a mexican restaurant and order a carne asada WRAP. you order a burrito. you don't ask for chips and sauce, you ask for salsa.

I'm sorry, my mistake. I meant to say jeopardize, not scrutinize. I was just struggling with my Blackberry to write that post while trying to get out of my car :) What I learned from this experience is :" Business comes first. Complete the transaction, critics, comments or hassles later :)"

Yes I know that. Cost of living is way cheaper in Vegas than SoCal unless you pay no rent in SoCal lol :)

I have had a chance to overlook few places in Vegas for living, some apartment complexes. In one of them, I was given a quote of $830 for 2+2 with balcony , DirectTV included! It was a pretty clean area that has great neighborhood & luxury living. This amount would be tripled in SoCal under same conditions.

Speaking of housing, I happened to see those fully-furnished, daily-weekly-monthly rental suites like Budget Suites, Luxury suites etc. on Tropicana Av. on the other side of I-15, any idea about living in such places?

I know there is a similar type, siegle suites with several locations throughout Vegas. $159/wk 650/month fully furnished with kitchen. But have heard bad things about them. They are a hotel in name only as most residents are permanate and at the lower end of the economic classes, so I would stay away from them. I know a poker player that lives at Holiday Royal or Royale on Paradise Rd next to Hard Rock Casino, which is similar, also furnished with a kitchen. I think he pays $175 a week or $610 a month when his poker career is going well enough that he has enough for the monthly rate. :rolleyes: That place seems ok from the outside, but is a little too close to the college, which isn't the safest of areas. The Budget america suites on Tropicana you speak of I don't know much about. I have walked past them before on my way to the Orleans. One is about 3 blocks west of I-15, the other about 10 blocks west. That might be a little better area. :)
